Nature\'s Garden

The purple flowers are horsemint (or lemonmint), the yellow ones are brown-eyed susans (rubekia) and there is also some white queen anne's lace. I swear I have about 10 acres covered in these and other spectacular flowers./w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

Re: Nature\'s Garden

yo jim,
that is awsome. i love black eyed susans. im growing a field on the back hill. it has a slopey shape to it. now that im content with the shape of it im gonna till it and plant wild flowers and grasses and whatnot. my wife always gets on my case about "the field" but when it is done it will be pretty like you have. one day last summer i was having a hallucination of what the hillside would look like with a free flowing shape of flowers so i fired up the grasshopper and cut out a shape. now im at the point where i need to chat with someone knowledgable about flowers. i want something that will grow every year and look good as long as possible. can i send a sod cutter and buy about 1000 square foot of yer flowers cause they sure look goood.

Beautiful, Jim! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

That's the look we've been trying for in several areas of our own property, but so far the only places that have turned out really well are the ones where it was natural. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

I guess ol' Mom Nature really knows what she's doing. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Re: Nature\'s Garden

Thanks Rich, but I really cannot take credit except that I always wait until the flower seeds are mature before I mow and spread them around. I also mow right before the spring season begins so plenty of light gets down to the seed. This year, the rains have been favorable and mother nature has taken care of the rest. Too bad you are not closer. I let my neighbors transplant or gather seeds all they want (so far only two have taken my offer). I don't know about sod, but we could probably come up with a couple of yards of topsoil that would produce the desired effect if spread around. There is just something strange about "planting wildflowers." Isn't that an oxymoron?/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Re: Nature\'s Garden

Harv, I'd give you advice, but I'm afraid your "blowing smoke" alarm would go off. My best advice would be to move to Texas, but then who would your neighbors there have to talk about if you left?/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Re: Nature\'s Garden

As usual, absolutely gorgeous photo JimI!

My birthday is coming up soon, and sweetie was asking me this morning if there was "something" I wanted. I told her that a digital camera would be "nice", but the budget won't handle it just yet.

Re: Nature\'s Garden

Believe me, GlueGuy, it's the camera and the subject. I just point and shoot. I guess the only things I can take credit for are persistance and patience. My Fuji MX-2900 really takes care of me. I'm already 'licking my lips" looking at another one. I know you would enjoy one, but it is about $1,000 for the camera and another $500 on accessories to really have a nice setup. I don't know how I ever got along without it. One day I'm taking pictures of the innerds of airplanes and the next day it's tractors or wildflowers. If it was any more fun I'd feel guilty./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

My best advice would be to move to Texas

A year ago I wouldn't have considered that in my worst dreams, Jim. Heck, every Californian knows that Texas is just one big barren wasteland suitable only for drilling oil.

Since I've been on this board, though, I've discovered that not only does Texas have some of the most appealing features in the country, but some of the folks down there might make pretty darn good neighbors. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: Nature\'s Garden

It's funny, Harv, that a state with the Death Valley and the entire desert range east of the mountains would think of Texas as barren, but I know it's true. I spent 6 years in CA when I was in the Navy (Vallejo - N. Bay area and San Diego) and I absolutely loved it. Of course, I noticed the percentage of Texas license plates on cars there too. I figure the only difference between the folks there and here is that after paying "the bills" we have a lot more left over for tractor stuff here in TX. Gosh! I do NOT envy that./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Re: Nature\'s Garden

There's no hope! $1500 was a lot more than I was anticipating for a decent digital camera. Something more on the order of $500 was what I had in mind. The way prices are going though, I might get there. Just saw the Olympus E10. It's a beaut. Retails for $1999 though... /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
