I have been putting in fence posts for 3 days now and my PHD works better than I could imagine in this rocky New England soil. The trick I think is knowing when to get off the tractor an go at it with bars and clam shell. It does find its way if you give it 1/2 a chance. My Dad was right as a kid though. If you don't know how to dig with bar and shovel it doesn't matter how fancy the machine if you don't know how to dig in the ground

Well, at least I agree with you about the PHD being handy. If I get into rocks the PHD won't work with, I'm putting the backhoe on
Talking about a dream ... got this reconditioned Hitachi 40# electric demo hammer off eBay for ~250, cobbled up a sleeve to fit over pipe and t-posts, man, it drives posts fast!

That is one rugged PHD on your Kubota. I never realized there was that much open land in East bridgewater. I thought anywhere near Boston was all built up. How high off the ground is your PHD auger when it is in the UP position? I picked up a smaller PHD the other day used for $100.00. The lower lift bracket is too small for my tractor. I need to extend it to raise the PHD higher off the ground.

Timber,

You have a real nice looking setup there. I've found the posthole digger to be an extremely handy attachment to have. Not only for fences, but sometimes it's nice to just put a single post up, or when the ground is real hard, it's great for planting shrubs and flowers. I have 12inch auger on mine and it's perfect for a one gallon plant!!!!

Keep the pics coming, I'm curious to see how your fence comes out.

I actually have 6 acers and I abut 157 acers of woods. There is a lot of land near me. most of my neighbors have 2 to 12 acers and the are some much bigger farms close by too. I'm also less than a mile from the Brockton line too and the Whitman line is somewhere out in the middle of the woods. The PHD is about a foot off the ground when it is up. There are 3 pin settings in the boom that you can change the digging depth and the ride height depending on the application

I will post more pics, My above ground pool is coming down next week and there going to start the in ground the day after labor day. I am putting up about 300 feet of fence, it is actually 2 fences in 1. I am putting up coral fence to match my Paddock. I don't want different kinds of fence on my property and I don't want the pool itself fenced in, I hate that look. In my town you have to fence you pool in with what they call Minny-mesh, It is a tight chain link. I am putting up a 3 plank coral with the planking on the inside and on the outside I am using Black Vinal coated Minny-mesh. The gates will be paddock entry gates covered in Minny-mesh as well. My goal is to preserve the look of my horse farm as well as give my dogs a safe place to play

GREAT pics - it is so nice to look at images. Thanks for taking the time to post them.

This might be a lame question.

Q: How do you know when the PHD hits a large rock?

Follow-up questions:

Q: Is this a Kubota offered PDH?

Q: Do you operate the PHD while seated on the tractor?

Thanks So Much!!!

Well you know when it has something in the ground, It jumps and throws a fit and it stops making downward progress.

I bought this PHD with my tractor but it is a Landpride. My kubota dealer doesn't always push the kubota attachments in fact depending on what it is he recommends other makers like Woods for the back-hoe. It depends on what your application is and how much you want to spend.

Yes the phd is all done from the drivers seat, you do have to dig the loose soil from the bottom of the hole with a clam shell though
