I had to replace the PTO out put shaft that I snapped off and decided to do the 50 hr maint at the same time. I need to replace the trans fluid. What is a good oil. My dealer is 70 miles away and I'd rather not drive that far. I have a New Holland dealer in town and I thought I'd try using their oil for the Workmaster 25s. I went to NAPA they sold me some To-4 which on further reading down the lable says not recommed for tractors. The one thing I noticed in some of the online videos is what is coming out of the tractor is amber and what came out of my tractor is red. is that a major consideration?
The red color should be just a dye. It's used to make it easier to see on the dipstick and identify oil leaks from other oils. You can buy the dye and put it in yourself. It doesn't take much to treat 5 gallons.
So this is the stuff I got a Tractor Supply Co. Looks like it has the specs of the your NAPA stuff. I didn't want to go back to NAPA because if they did not know what to sell me the first time the probabaly wouldn't know the second time. I told them the specs from the manual and they sold me the TO-4. I called the LS dealer I bought the tractor from and they said they would have to order the oil from LS. Really?! They wouldn't/couldn't tell me anything else to use. Luckily it comes in 2 gallon jugs because the first half gallon went out the drain hole, like an idiot I forgot to put in the plug!
