Got an email on Friday telling me that someone (s) had broken into our summer home/camp. So I got up early this morning and drove up to inspect the damage.

They had broken a window out of the camp to gain access. Just a pain knowing that someone would do such a thing. Now they didn't take anything just went through all of the cabinets in kitchn then all of the closets in all of the other rooms.

Afternoon Wayne,
I feel for you guy, thats just plain senseless !:( How people can do that type of thing is beyond me ! We have been very lucky with our Vt home, I have my friend keep an eye on it for me and its got open fields in front so people can see if somebody is up there !

Best thing is to repair the damage and move on, although a webcam would be nice ! ;)

Yep 325 miles one way, fix a couple windows and the drive home. First time we have had a problem, but nothing really all that bad.

Most of the people up there are retired and head south prior to the first snow. In the past I would go up once a month and snowshoe in to check things, not that it would have made a difference but this year I went up before Christmas and then just haven't been up to going.

I think they were maybe young people looking for something to drink? Lots of good stuff up there that they could of taken so I guess we are lucky this time. The replacement sash is around $170 and on order.

Wayne,

Sorry to hear about your break in. It's spring break hear and the kids out of school seem to be dumber then usual this year. Two just got arrested for destroying some headstones that were 200 years old for no reason, but they were bored.

My first guess for anything stupid that happens is to figure out where the teenagers are.

We have the same problems around here, Eddie. The camp is pretty isolated and my first thought was young people on snowmobiles or 4-wheelers looking for a place to party! I must say for many years we have never had a single problem so this isn’t something that is gong to bother me for too long.

When I stop and think of all the stuff that is stored up there I guess it is a good thing they were only looking for drinks and party time.

NO NO wife told me not to take it off until June! It is really coming down here not sure for how long, but at this rate we might be seeing 2" an hour.

As for camp we are in an area with a bunch of hunting camps and a ton of guns and ammo around. I am just glad we took the guns home last fall. I just don't feel comfortable with guns hanging around. We will be going up for the spring vacation next week so it will give me time to tighten things up a bit and get over the darn deal.

That's always a tough call, leave the place unlocked so they don't break in, or button it down as tight as possible, wood over the windows or bars or something, and if they do get in they'll do a lot more damage, and if they try and don't get in, they'll probably do a fair bit of damage anyway...........

Camera's might be a good idea, or at least a sign saying there's 24 hr secams on.....
