Modification to bush hog...

I think if the front is not straight across, a chamfer or a contour would push tall growth off to the sides instead of passing it under the deck. I ran into that with my new, rounded back Woods when trimming in reverse. My old square backed Ford BH did not push it sideways in reverse but there was a triangular area in both corners that the blade did not sweep. You just needed to be able to back up a little further.

How tall of goldenrod would pose a problem with rounded backs or folding over too far to cut short?

I'm trying to figure how one is going to be turning into something that would place the front corner of the cutter in any real different path than the tractor is going. That is, I'd think that if I'm really that close to something I don't want to hit with the cutter I'm thinking that the tractor would already be in a similar iffy situation. I don't think a couple of inches of bufffering is going to do much; might, actually, end up gouging into something: that's at thin edge- if it were more like a tire/wheel it would be better.

My concern with hitting things with my cutters lies more with the rear swinging into something. I've been pretty fortunate in not really creaming anything of concern.

Right, the front corner hitting something is a concern when the brush hog is wider than the tractor.

I could have used that roller back when I had a the MF240D and a 7' brush hog.

The middle part of my round back BH cuts well in reverse since it is still a pretty flat zone. Off to the sides, where the contour is steeper, the growth just needs to be long enough to get trapped under the sides of the BH after it was pushed aside.

Yep. Accidentally swinging the back of that bushhog over a yard hydrant leads to a very wet and muddy conclusion.

The bush hog vs brush hog debate is entertaining. Here in Pa I've always heard nothing but brush hog, and I've always lived in a farming community where they are everywhere. What is actually funny is that I'm 43 and I never once heard them called a rotary cutter until I started looking online to research getting a new one for myself, LOL.

And the manufacturer of my brush hog calls it a "rotary mower". :D

Here in my part of Virginia we call a Rotary Cutter a Bush Hog. We cut bushes and over growth with them. Sometimes field grass and even small trees... Very versatile piece to have in your tractor tool line up. Brush is a pile of useless woody debris. I guess you could run your Bush Hog over that too. I know I have... Brush Hog just sounds funny to me. Kinda think people started calling it that to keep from giving Bush Hog name recognition...

On the OP’s post, I don’t see much sense in the wheel deal.... Probably why you’ve never seen it before?...

I grew up in northern Indiana and it was always called a brush hog. Here in central Oklahoma it is mostly called a brush hog. I just typed "brush hog" in the search box on craigslist, it showed 245. Typed "bush hog", it showed 34, most of those were Bush Hog brand.

Here is the brush that I mow with the out front brush hog rotary mower rotary cutter. The first 3 pictures is looking out the windshield, from the driver's seat:
