Just thought I'd share a couple of pictures of our small mill and one of the projects we used the wood for. The fire was for slab wood, the boss figured it was time to clean up some other stuff :). When we built the garage we had one of our wettest years on record. The mud where the garage went was knee deep, real joy to work in. I ended up throwing slab wood down inside so that I could park the tractors without getting stuck.

nice job!
I would love to have a bandsaw mill -- it's just not in the budget at the moment.

Did you make your own lumber for the garage with the mill? I have thought about a mill too. What do you think of the brand you have?
Dave.

Looks like a fun project...if it wasn't for the mud. Yikes just walking around in that stuff would be tiring.

What kind of tractor is the one on the left with the Loader? I have a FarmPro 2425. (Jimna). I only have around 85 hours on mine but so far I like it a lot. Based on what I have read I am just waiting for something to break on it. Have you had good service from your loader tractor?

I've used this mill to build a 2 story house{1600+sq'} that garage plus add on's to each side. I've also built a 24X24 car port with loft, and did a bunch for a neighbor, garage and porch. I have had great service with Hudson, even though the mill is only 8hp it has never let me down. The key to a good mill is sharp blades making sure everything is alined and clean. The only thing I would have done different is to just buy the power head and build the track. I ended up building and adding 10' to my track so that I can cut up to 18+' logs. It would have been easier to have just bought the steel and build the track myself.

Steve C: At the time if we didn't have mud we'd have had nothing at all. Walking in it was a real treat it has a lot of clay in it, so it would just stick to everything. I broke my foot while working in it one day. To make a long story short, when I went to walk through the mud{on my way to the hospital} I reset the bones in my foot from the suction, crrrruuuuuuch crack. That smarted just a little.

The tractor also came from Hudson BUT it is a jinma 254. I have allmost 600hr{I believe} and have yet to have any trouble except what I caused. I have put this little tractor through heck, stuck in muck up to the hood/ over the back/front axles more then once. I have used this machine harder then most could imagine, BUT I also have allways kept up on maintanence and repairs{if any where needed}. If/when I buy again I will go with the same brand, just will probably go a bit bigger{40hp range}.

I see Hudson ads alot, thanks for the review! You have sawn a good bit with it.

That clay is ornery stuff, the more you have to walk or drive in it, the deeper the goo goes. You will get it under control.
Dave.

I really don't get into brand names, I worry more about if it works. Hudson's main building is not that far from us and they had a great deal at the time. The folks that work were I bought mine all seem to be respectfull. They weren't pushy like so many sales companies. They were also honest about buying parts etc, they had no problem telling me to go to NAPA TSC etc for parts.

oh ouch. I can't imagine walking thru that stuff with a broken foot:eek::eek:

I am happy to hear that your tractor is working well. I have read so many negative comments on them at other sites, it is good to hear of a positive experience. Mine is a 2005 FarmPro 2425. I bought it from the origional owner, an 81 year old guy. It had 48 hours on it and had been garage stored. He and his wife decided he was to old to play with tractors due to some health issues. I have been very pleased with it so far.
