First I checked the timing on the engine...look for that post later... Then hooked up the 5' disk and worked over the garden pretty good. The rye had really settled in and took several passes. I ran the L pretty hardf or over an hour. Then my L got to go on a short road trip...(1/2 mile crows fly but 6 by road), then used the BB to level out a garage carport for my BIL in prep for concrete. Then back home.

Nice job. What a defference a few thousand miles make. I'm guessing our frost level is down about 3 1/2 feet right now.........

That grille guard sure looks stout! Don't mess around with sissy stuff...build it like you're going to drive straight through the side of a house!

The pictures of you hitting the disc are great. I'm still on the fence on a tiller or disc harrows for turning/smoothing/amending/maintaining my yard. Pictures like that make me lean toward discs...though not as many. Don't think I could drag quite that much through my Virginia Red Clay.

Of course, I have to agree with Mr. Johnk. We're about 18" of tundra right now. Last time in a LONG time folks can remember not being able to work because of cold. Not that they can't dig, but the stuff comes out in such big chunks that they can't properly backfill (land development jobs, I mean...water, sewer, and storm drainage work).

Thanks for the comments, the guard isn't the prettiest but it does work. I keep adding another piece of channel to the bumper if I find some at the scrap yard. I think I have a 3", 4", 5" on there now. If I find a 5' piece of 6" it'll go in there.

Thing about a disk is it's a lot cheaper, plus once you get the initial land loosened up it'll dig fine. When I first prepped this area about 3 years ago a 10' disk with some weight on a 55hp tractor would barely scrape the surface. I borrowed a 3 row turning plow and went from there. Now I go over it 2-4 times a year and it's like powder in no time (granted this is some sandy loam). In another area I had some of that Texas red clay. I waited until it was moist and hit it with the same turning plow. I would work up pretty loose as well but I could not get anything to grow in it.

I'm loving my little $200 disk!
