so for the last few winters when it gets cold outside, I have issues with my tractor. I can start it up no problem but when I step on forward it cuts out and shuts down the tractor. it seems that after an hour of so of driving it in forward and reverse (and starting it up every 2 seconds), it'll eventually start working. its a real pain in the ***. My question is, are there safety features that are doing this? I was wondering if it was a switch in the seat that is shutting it down or if its shutting down because the coolant temp is up to a certain set point or something along these lines? does anyone know anything about these tractors? I know if I was to put the PTO in use and say got off the tractor it'll shut down, so there has to be some sort of sensor for that.

I don't have even the slightest idea where to start looking. It could even be that PTO sensor switch for all I know (whatever it's called).

Could it be that in the winter the diesel fuel congeals because you are trying to use summer grade diesel--a common problem if you live in a very cold climate (Canada?). How old is the diesel you are using and what time of year did you buy it? Fuel dealers convert automatically to winter grade in the fall, so check with your bulk fuel dealer as to what he is selling. If you don't use a lot of fuel, you may have to drain the summer grade out and buy some new winter grade and fill the tank. I got to the point where I never buy summer grade but use winter grade all year long even though it is supposed to have less power generating ability. Hint: Don't run your tractor right out of fuel by running the engine. You will regret it!

Cam-Saskatoon - thanks for your help. I can definitely see what your saying about the fuel, but the tractor will idle for an hour if I let it. You were right as I do live in Canada and we do use the two different kind of fuels.

I figured it out this morning. I shorted out the wires coming from the seat switch and it seems to be working. I'm thinking that the switch wasn't satisfied as it may have been frozen open.

Thanks again!!!
