L4740 with fel, presently have the forward cab lights only, would like to disconnect them, and hook up the hood lights instead. Bout the only thing I do in dark is shredding, and the dust on the windshield make the cab lights useless, I actually see better with them off. Think it would be better if I had the hood lights instead.

Would also like to hook up a work light on back of cab; hypocritical of me eh?, there are wires near the rear signal lights that aren't hooked to any thing, wondering if they were meant for work lights.

Would welcome any advice, suggestions, comments, etc.
Thanks in advance

operators manual, parts manual, for tractor will not give you the info you are looking for most likely....
but the "SHOP manual" for the tractor should give you the details of the wiring harnesses, and what wires are fused to this or that. along with "color coding" of the wires. so you can splice into the wiring harness some place to run some dip switches or like to independently turn on/off head lights vs cab front lights. and if you can simply buy a switch for rear cab lights and hook into the wiring harness, or if you need to run a new set of wires, in line fuse and a switch.

pending on fuse size and what fuse they connect to you, you might be limited on what size lights in watts you can connect up for rear lights, vs going with a LED setup on the rear, without having to run new wires.

a rear fender white light pointing down at 3pt hitch for unhooking / hooking up at night is awesome, being you have a cab, might suggest a switch in cab, and switch back on fender for this light.

2 rear high up on the cab lights, that are on swivels (adjust left right, up down) to some degrees. works out nicely as over head spot lights, and out working in the dark,

double check your front cab lights, they might be swivel lights, and you simply need to get up to them and adjust them (left, right, up, down) to make them work for you. if not you might be able to pop the lights out and replace them with a generic 3rd party lights that swivel. for me the front cab lights and FEL work and pointing them just right helps me better in the dark.

double check to see if you have the smaller size alternator vs the larger size alternator that may come for your tractor. extra lights might mean dead battery,

double check wiring harness in rear by fender, it might be for a "rear window washer/blade" or for a trailer connection, and in the mix of wires in the wiring harness there might be a wire for a "caution lights / orange color blinking light" or backup horn.

other words get shop manual for your tractor, and look up the wirining harnesses and color coding, and what is fused and not fused.

Mine came with factory rear work lights mounted to the back of cab like the front. Controlled by a nice oem switch in cab right next to the front.

Given that, I'm thinking two thoughts:
1. See about buying the oem "kit" for the rear and get a nice factory look but more money
2. See about just buying the oem switch and wiring up your own LED system to likely give u better setup than oem for less

Either way, my bet is the wiring harness may already be there.

Do you not have a front window washer to get the dust off at night?

Reread your post.

Are you saying you can't turn on ypt he headlights in your grill?

My tractor has 3 sets of lights
1. Main headlights with high/lo beam switched on end of turn signal lever
2. Cab forward lights switched with toggle on ceiling of cab
3. Cab rear/work lights switched with seperate toggle on ceiling of cab

When I light em all up, I look like a Mars rover driving around my fields.

I moved my factory front cab lights to the back. The wiring is already there(wrapped in tape with the flashing cab lights) and purchased the factory switch for the rears.Fits perfectly.I replace the fronts with 27 watt LED's.Easy job to do.As stated your front hood mounted lights are on the signal stalk to the right.

Front and rear all lit up :)

Thinking about swapping to LED for even more coverage.

Thanks to all for the replies,
boggen,
I tried adjusting the cab lights some, just can't seem to eliminate that glare, especially when the fel is raised, as it must be for maneuvering around trees, fence, etc

C4Ranch,
(1) Should have ordered the rear light setup when speccing the tractor, I do like my add-ons to look factory, so will prolly order the switch kit.
LEDs are the only way to go, IMHO.
(2) Windshield washer just makes a muddy windshield, if you wash, go take a leak, get a drink, stop mowing till the glass is dry, 5 min after mowing again glare is back.
(4) Are you saying that the main (hood) lights are switched ON/Off at the end of the turn signal lever? If that is so, boy, do I feel like a dummy. I read thru the operator manual-got the impression that turn signal lever was also the hi/lo beam control, did not realize it is also also the on/off switch.....over two years owning, fighting that glare....egads!!!!!!!

Yep. :)

Sounds like the easiest and cheapest solution for you is to turn em on For the first time :)

not to worry, it happens to the best of us. That is what this forum is all about.

Your cab lights are more of a flood type which is probably causing the glare.

You could do what NYbirdman suggests and move them to your rear as floods are great back there.

Then get new spot light types for the front plus using your headlights will give you the best of both worlds.
