First of all i would like to say Hello My name is RICK and this is my first post, i have been doing some reading on toolcat's on here and you all seem verry sharp;) none of the thread's that i have read seem to match my problem so here it goes......lol

{long post....for a short version see the last paragraph}

i have a '03 toolcat and it has had it's fair share of problem's. from overheat (2 speed fan valve) to misc, B/S

so now......back in july we were useing it to pull a bale acumulator, and it suddonly stopped! and sent it to the shop and they put a drive controller, and a F-N-R selector, on it and sent it back.....that's where the problems started

it has picked up the bad habbit of slipping the rear tires going down the road with a attachment (1200lb grapple) and slipping the front's while empty we use it to transport work tools among many many other chore's so it sees alot of road use and within 3 miles all 4 tires were JUNK!

so the dealer has picked it up and dropped it off 3 time's now  and still has a problem.

they have replaced the drive motor pressure releif's and adjusted charge/preload pressure's

does anyone have any ideas?.....i need help and i need it fast as this thing's going back in the shop this week and it's obvious they dont know what the heck they are doing  lol

so in conlusion it is still slipping the rear's while going down the road.....what's wrong with this p.o.s. lol

P.S. i know you have all seen a TC before but i just thought a pic would dress up the place lol

Well, if you're the same Powerjoke as over on PlowSite, welcome aboard. Actually, even if you aren't, welcome anyway.

I have a "D" and have not experienced the same problems you have...so sorry, can't help in that regard.

LOL.....'cant hide nowhere huh? ..... i guess i coulda changed my name ....doh! :D

you like the "D"? ....i had intention's on buying a new one by now, but i bought a "A" for half price of a "D" as a trial thing.....but i don't think i want a "D" now lol. i may buy a new RTV 1100 and a 247Cat or a t-140 B/C for the sidewalk crew. ?

"You can run but you cannot hide" :)

Yeah, I like my TC pretty well. My dealer is great and so I'm pretty happy with Bobcat in general. I have a 5600 rather than the 3-pt 5610. I use it almost exclusively (90%) for snow plowing/blowing.

I took my TC in for a "pre-winter prep" and they did $1500-$2000 worth the service/parts for free. I think they weren't too busy and they pulled all the Service Bulletins on it and addressed each one. Basically, they did some retrofitting on the steering to take care of a noise during turning (and crabbing), replaced all 4 struts (can't order shocks alone they said), replaced a pressure regulator on the hyd system (I was maxing out at 2400 PSI), fixed a leak on the hyd pump, and washed the entire chassis. Everything was under warranty.

Good luck with getting your machine back to 100%. I view my "D" as being a little temperamental but I can't think of anything I'd want to replace it with for what I do.

Rick,

I have an 'A' as well that I use around my property for various chores. Fortunately mine has been very reliable with around 650hrs on it.

The service manual troubleshooting chart lists the following for "Drive axles turning at different speeds":

- Drive controller not working correctly
- Check drive codes
- Hydrostatic motor damage
- Hydrostatic pump damage
- Replenishing valve not seating
- Speed sensor not working correctly

Have you visually inspected the wires and connectors on the speed sensors? Do the symptoms occur in normal and rabbit mode?

the seizing of the front axle in reverse is noticed in slow or work.

but the tire chewing is noticed in rabbit.

i've looked at the wires and checked ohm's on the drive valves (4 of them) etc. Before the drive comp and F-N-R switch was replaced

thanks

Powerjoke,
Not sure I can help but I have an idea, after you said the problem of slipping happens in HIGH speed,, so here we go:
In the high/low speed positions there is a little piston, (its either one or two small ones) in the comer motor that changes the angle of the swash plate therefore changing the volume per revolution and thus the speed. The thought what if the front or the back is not changing or stuck causing slipping between the two. I think I would jack it up have it secure and put it in gear low then high and check your revolutions at each axle. If you find that one is stuck you might get lucky and take the Comer apart be carefull not to disassemble the pistons/cage assembly because their wear matched.
Good luck

Also take your bypass filter off and cut it apart it is the filter by the battery have one to replace if it is OK, also read your private email I sent you.

thanks Rock:

the dealer has taken the front drive motor apart and visually inspected everythig,.......but who know's if they knew what they were looking for  lol

the bypass filter has been cut-apart and there was NO evidence of wear of anykind preasent,

i am going to pull samples today and send them to CaT, they give me the S.O.S. bottle's so i figured 'eh what the ****? lol

the difference in the speed's of the tires is not noticble, however the tires are just "chunking" off of it,

when i noticed one of the rear's with the tread ripped off, i asked one of the hired hand's what happened, he said he had no idea.

so i told him to go back to the other farm and drop off the grapple and get the trencher, so when he come back, the other rear tire was bad :dizzy: and not knowig what happened i called the dealer and asked them what they thought would be happening?.. know idea btw

so then the machine got roaded again WITHOUT any attachment, and that's when one of the front's got chewed, (all of this happened within 30 min)

so, the only conlusion i came up with was, with the attachment the rear was loosing traction when it was trying to push the seizing front's. and without any attachment's the front's were sliding going down the road

my tractors with ground speed radar, will indicate 15-25% slip while in field, and you cant tell it from the cab, so i imagine that's the same thing that's happening here?

when the front's seize, in reverse, there is nothing you can do to make them start turning again if traction is low, and the machine won't back up. the rear's just sit and spin

BTW: all of this happens when it's normal operating temp ONLY! ?

thanks for the help....hope this peice of the riddle helps solve the problem?

I would think if one set of tires was turning at significant different speed than the others, it would be more noticeable. Does toolcat seem to lack power or have difficulty getting up to speed?
