mahindra 3510 still running too warm

If the top of the battery is higher than the bottom of the radiator, it is blocking air flow. Only the top half of the radiator has enough airflow and will prevent proper cooling when running hard. The 3510 and 4110 has narrow fins in radiator that will block easily and restrict airflow. It is a design flaw in the radiator specs.. I lowered mine and it NEVER runs above midrange.

Mahindra sells a battery box kit that will lower it down between the frame rails or it can be fabricated if you have welder.

oh that's cool that they offer an update kit

i checked mine last evening and from what i see, the battery is sitting in a compartment below the level of the radiator. if any of the battery interferes with airflow at all, it's very little. so the conversion must have been done at the factory 'cause i bought the tractor new.

the thing i see restricting air flow is a canister in front of the radiator that contains two filters and not being a mechanic, i'm assuming that filters air for the combustion chamber. i clean those filters every time i clean the radiator with a compressor blowing air from the inside and outside of the filter until i don't see any dust flying.

bush hogging is about over and then it's back to maintenance work with it like finish mowing, hauling, FEL things etc and the heat is not an issue... just hacks me off that the bushhogging is a PITA having to come out of the field every little bit to blow it out.

thank you for your efforts...

If the only time you have a heat problem is when you are using a Rotary Cutter I think you may have identified what is causing your heat problem. Rotary Cutters when used in high material use a lot of horsepower. Cutters with debris guards use more horse power than those without, because a large amount of material is double cut. A Rotary Cutter, on the too large size for a tractor will cause heating problems. Try not taking a full bite with the Rotary Cutter and see if the problem still exists.

i understand what you're saying and agree, although i do have some ... yes, buts...

when i bought the farm, i bought a package from the dealer. all the implements were bought for the 3510 and set up for it. i bought the bush hog (5' i think) its the same width as the tractor wheels, a 6' finish mower, grader blade, front end loader, and post hole auger. i'm assuming they are the correct sized mowers... i'm an appliance user, i don't know a whole lot about their mechanics, just how to hitch'm up and use them.

this bush hog is the same size, but newer, as the one that came with the farm and the 1950-something massey/ferguson TO35. i used it a couple of years on the same fields with no heating problems and i would think the mahindra is a huskier machine.

i'm thinking maybe of asking the dealer about a radiator of the same size with wider cooling vents so maybe stuff won't clog up so badly.

today was a cooler day, only in the mid 80's and i was doing a lot of trimming around trees and fences, doing a lot of backing up and stopping and starting... this usually really heats it up, but with the sheet metal off the sides and the lower temps, it stayed about the half way mark all day. much less stressful for me.

Those old MF TO35 were tough machines. They had an outstanding cooling system with a large radiator. Some I think also held eight quarts of oil.

If you run a mower too fast in thick stuff it will heat up quick. Maybe gear down one gear and see if that helps. Also, are the 2 screens in place between radiator and air filter?

Usually when we see this the radiator isn't clean. Folks will hit it with some compressed air or water but when you shine a flashlight through the core it will be partially clogged. It has to be entirely clean and you have to inspect if carefully to make sure it is clean.

But I agree the 3510 used a really fine radiator, just perfect for a car on the road perhaps but it seemed to catch all the stuff flying around when mowing and reports are that it could clog in an hour if you are mowing dry fluffy stuff. Not good. For a mowing tractor I think it would be ideal if anything small enough to make it past the prescreen would also me small enough to go right through the radiator and not get stuck. If you ever replace the radiator, I think I'd look for a non-OEM replacement that had coarser spacing and maybe one extra row. I used to mow regularly with an old Ford 4600 and I could go years without cleaning the radiator. It had wide fin spacing. I think that cools less efficiently in theory, but in the real world it worked great.

Just some thoughts.
