Mahindra 2615 HST New battery installed, still has to be jump started!

I hope someone can help with this problem, asap. Please. My husband has a Mahindra 2615 HST Tractor, bought it brand new in 2007. The tractor would not start, dead battery. We are in Nevada. Went and bought a new battery, cleaned terminals, etc. Started right up. But now every time he goes to start it, it is like the battery is dead again. So he jump starts it, and it runs perfectly! But every time, again, always has to jump start!. Anyone have any ideas. He has checked all the connections every where. PLease help. Thank you so much. Evelyn :confused3:

First have the battery checked, I have bought new ones before that tested bad. Make double sure all connections are clean and tight. Then check to make sure alt. has the correct output. Then if all else fails check for a drain on the battery when its shut down, a simple way would be to disconnect the cables when your done using it. Hook them back up when you are going to use the machine again, then see if it starts. Good luck

Before removing and checking the battery a simple check with a volt meter should be done. Check the voltage before starting. If it is 12 or better start the machine and see if it goes to 13 or 14 with jumper cables removed. If it does then the alternator is working. After running the tractor for a while shut it off and note the voltage. Go back the next day and check again. If it is lower you have a draw on something running with the key off or the battery is bad.

It sounds like there is something drawing the battery down while it is parked, the new battery is bad, or the alternator circuit isn't charging.
As mentioned by a previous poster check the battery voltage with a digital meter. It should read at least 12V with the key off. If not, charge the battery for several hours, disconnect and test with meter the next day. If at least 12V the tractor should start. Once started the voltage should read close to 13V-13.9 or more if the alternator is charging. If not the alternator isn't working or has a bad regulator. If that checks out the alt. is working.
Next would be to check for shorts or a draw on the battery. With the key off, disconnect the negative cable and connect a 12V test light between the cable and the battery. If it lights up something is drawing on the battery. Pull fuses out one at a time until the light goes out. That is the circuit that is drawing the battery down.

I would guess the alternator or regulator isn't working properly not letting the battery charge while running. Jumping it will get it started. If the alternator or regulator circuit is bad it will continue to run off the battery drawing it down to such a low voltage it would need to be jumped again the next day.
