I see these machines still listed on Kubotas website but I'm wondering if they're still in production? I'd read that the rest of the premium Mxx40's were being replaced by the 60 series but hadn't heard anything about the "special utility" models. Are they being phased out or will they still be available? Any info available?

All the 40's are tier 3 machines & no longer in production, although not all have been sold. You can still find some on dealer lots.

Thanks Fallon, that clears it up a bit. I'm just getting back in the market for a tractor and those models caught my eye. I appreciate the reply.

How about 4wd cab models on the 7040HDC? What kind of prices are you seeing on those with low hours?

$35-45k at the auctions in my area depending on options like FEL, rear remotes, etc. I seen a 2wd open station without loader and 350hrs go for $17k. I've heard of better deals but I'm never present when those chips fall.

I've about ruled out the m5640 for the transmission, but the m7040su hydraulic shuttle would be a nice one if I could find one.. Does anyone know if it has a turbo or egr on it?

/ M7040su and M5640su? #9
It is my understanding that the 7040su has both a turbo and egr as my 7040hdc-1 does. Many call it Tier 3, but my paperwork calls it Interim Tier 4. Final Tier 4 as found on the new 7060 adds DPF and regen.

Thanks Poorplowboy that's what I thought too. I called a dealer with one in stock and he called it tier three but it's listed as tier 4 interim. That stinks it's got the egr.
Though they have been known to quit working..

The egr on these engines is very easily removed.

Thanks wmonroe, that's good to know just in case. Hopefully I can locate one of these 7040s with hydraulic shuttle. I'll pass on the 5640, I don't think I want the regular shuttle it comes with. I'd considered the mx5100 too, but I think I want the larger frame and gear over the hst.
Funny thing, I had the Deere 5065e at the top of my list until I tried to speak with the local dealers. I guess being in the delta has spoiled them selling the big ag tractors. One place no one ever came out to speak with me. I went inside, same thing. Salesmen sitting around joking, never said a word. I went over to the brochure rack, browsed there another 10m. I said to heck with it.
Called another dealer, who has "Delta" in their name, left my name and number -never returned my call. Ok, I call again after looking at the tractor on his lot I wanted to buy. He proceeds to inform me that the 5065e isn't available with power reverser, when he's got a couple sitting on his lot! I said OK can you get me a price, whichever trans it has ? His reply "oh I don't know, it'd probably take me 30 minutes to pull that up..." I thanked him for his time.
Cant imagine what warranty claims would be like there.

Sorry for the rant, I think I'm going orange this time.

phew, lots to process, my suggestion? sleep on it, take a break. you're the one with the wallet & they're the ones wanting you to go for the 1st thing in the feeding frenzy. smart to post here. play it out, talk w/your better half, then decide... you'll know when the time is right

Yeah that's my plan to take a few weeks before I decide. I'm going to search some old threads with comparisons between tractors including the 5e Deere. And some local dealers too, even if I don't buy locally I may need service done at some point.

Bigbull338, sounds like you got a good deal on your tractor. How are you liking it so far?

i love it.the hydro shuttle took some getting used to.personally i like 8 speed tranny.because you can pretty well do everything in low range with out going to high range.it moves and handles 5 by 6 2000lb round bales with ease as long as you have weight on the rear.

Sounds like a real nice machine. About what rpm is the engine when you're at 540 pto?

if you run at full 540 its at 2300 or 2400rpms..on mine it tells you how close you are to running at 540rpms.but i really dont like running 540 so if im working it i run between 1800 to 2000rpms.

dntfxr--I had the same thing with the Deere dealers that I went to see. I finally, after hanging out in the showroom for 15 min, had to walk into the office and practically wake the guy up. Went to the Kubota dealer in Sulphur Springs and they acted like I was a long lost brother.

It's too bad that there are so many dealers out there like that (of all brands). We go in planning to spend a lot of money, I don't think prompt and friendly service is too much to ask.
