How can I get flow control on my rear remotes, the operators manual says it is not possible.
I found a good deal on a rock picker that I would like to buy, I am worried it will not work correctly.

Thanks, Scott

More information would be helpful. I have no idea what the requirements of a rock picker are. Why couldn't you plumb external flow control valves between the tractor and rock picker? Surplus center has both manual and electric adjustable flow controls in their catalog.

Scott, are you saying the picker runs hydraulically? If it is the hydraulic system of many tractors that size is not designed to run continuiously.

Thanks for the replys.
I have looked at Surplus Center but wonder if the flow was lowered the pressure regulator on my tractor would stay open and that would overheat my fluid.
The reel is operated with a hydraulic motor that is rated 12 GPM @ 1500PSI. My tractors system is 11 GPM @ >2500 PSI.
I had a thought to tee in a pressure regulator set @ 1600 PSI with the output running back to the tractors hydraulics through a cooler. Then install the flow regulator in the 1600 PSI area of the circuit.

Thanks, Scott

The flow control valve just sends the excess flow back to tank, so shouldn't cause the pressure relief to open. And overheating the tractors system would be a concern by running a hydraulic motor continuously. A cooler would be a good idea. You should also check that you actually have all of that 11 GPM available at the remote.

Would it not help to install a relief valve so that when the flow was small the relief valve on the pump would not be overworked?

The flow control will not cause the tractors PRV to open even if the flow is turned completely off. It will simply bypass all the flow back to the tractors sump. The only pressure that will be created is the restriction in the return line. Surplus Center has the flow control valves with built in PRV which is what I would use. Item No. 9-064-50.

You can order one throught Kubota. It does not list it under the M7040, but it does list it under the M8540/9540. However, the "normal" valves on all the M-40 series show to be the same, so a flow control valve that will fit a M9540 will also go on an M7040. I am sure that they are not cheap, but it works the way Kubota thinks best for their product.

Kubota says the valve they use on the larger tractors will not work on the 7040, they do not say why. My dealer told me they have never installed on on a 7040.
I can install a standard flow control but I have been good with finishing touches.
Should I buy a new dip stick for the sump and convert it to the drain back to the sump?

Thanks, Scott
