I've had over 40 over the decades but the one that most comes to mind was way back when I was dirt poor. I bought a winter beater that was a 1960's camouflage-painted van that had been rolled over. It ran fine and everything but it leaked in the rain and smelled. It was a sorry sight.

Also, it was "racked" in that it had a lean to the body and looked like you were on a slope even when you were on flat ground. It looked pretty odd going down the road and I was occasionally stopped by the police. I had a 25 mile commute.

I could minimize the lean by driving on the center line of the road crown but even in a very remote area, that bothered me. Anyway, when I had a few bucks to upgrade I did and sold it to the next guy who likely had a future tale to tell.

1955 salmon pink Hudson Hornet. First of many POS.

It was 1966 and i didn't even have a license.

It got worse before it got better.

I've got a 1988 BMW 325 convertible i've had for 27 years. That one seems to be the best compromise...for me.

A 1929 Durant? Seriously? I have never even seen one! Do you have a picture...or two?

My Dad, who owned some weird old cars (a Star, and another one, a Maxwell I think ) but that was back in the 20's and early 30's when they were still around. I would say a Durant is pretty rare.

1949 Chevy 2door fastback. Black, DragFast floor shifter

1941 Mercury Woody wagon. Owned by Jack Conner’s Speed Shop Seattle.

1941 Mercury 2door coupe. Put this body on the 1941 Mercury Woody frame. Mom upholstered the seats for me.

1948 Ford 2door Coupe. Plum color with Cadillac chrome wire wheels. Full race tri-power flathead motor.

1950 ford coupe. Worked off a new metallic green paint job at Floyd’s in DesMoines.

1932 (2) project pickups. Had to sell before going into the service.

1960 Pontiac Catalina Black convertible. 389 V8. Bought from Rick Lyons would not run. Bought for ½ price if I got it running and drive it away.

1937 Ford 4door sedan. Nice car. Traded for 1960 Pontiac convertible. Sold to Norm Dauber.

1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe. Lincoln Midnight Blue. 1953 Olds V8 engine.

1940 Ford coupe. Primer grey. Lifted frontend. 1954 Chrysler 392 Hemi V8. Dual quad carbs, full race cam, fender dump headers. Dash mounted push button Torque flight transmission. 411 posi rear end 8” street slicks. Bought in Renton January 1968 right after coming home from VietNam. 11” of snow on the ground.

1953 Chevrolet pickup. Primer grey. 389 Pontiac W/ automatic. Non runner bought from (Ben) neighbor for ½ price if I got it running.

1960 Pontiac Catalina 2door hardtop. 389 V8, 3 speed transmission factory on the floor.

1962 Pontiac Grand Prix. 389 V8 white with black interior. Bucket seats with console.

1955 Ford 2door post. 312 cam and dual coil ignition. High school car

1956 Ford. painted midnight blue. Installed 406 ford with Tri-power. Sold to neighbor as I was going to Vietnam.

1953 Ford F100 pickup. Green. 390 Ford V8. Automatic. Rolled and pleated Metal flake green and white interior.

1947 Ford pickup. Brush painted it primer red. High school driver

1963 Dodge 330 Black lacquer hardtop. 383 V8 with factory 3 speed on the floor.Brought from druggy in Broadmoor neighborhood. Did a full roll and pleat in Pearl white with black bead.

1959 Chevy panel truck, Dark blue 327 automatic.

1955 Chevy 2door sedan Green 396 V8, Turbo 400 automatic. Bucket seats. Fast

1955 Chevy 2door sedan Orange 283 4 speed. Did a full black 2” roll and pleat interior,

1955 Chevy pickup. 283 V8 Bright yellow with black pinstripes.

1956 Chevy pickup. 265v8 all stock Dark Green. Brought Merlin home in it.

1963 Econoline window van. Bought from cleaners at college. 6cyl 4 speed column shift. Blacklight and full of pillows. Way fun!

1961 Ford Falcon 4 door. Robins egg blue 6cyl automatic. Very nice. Took in trade on Econoline van for $100.00 very fun to drive.

1962 ChevyII. 4 door 6 cyl. Very cheap to drive

1963 ½ Ford Galaxie 500 fastback. 390 auto Metallic blue.

1979 Buick Regal Gold with T-Tops. Bought as a total. Traded for 1974 Corvette.

1974 Corvette L-48. 350 V8 automatic. Black on black T top. Had a bent axle and came with all replacement parts behind the seat.

1955 Chevy Nomad Wagon. 350 V8 4 speed. Red and white.

1969 Corvette 300HP 427 with Turbo 400 automatic.

1962 Corvette 327 4speed. Silver and did a roll and pleat red interior. Removable hardtop.

1980’s 356 Peterbilt conversion. Built myself. Started as a 1960’s Ford ¾ ton 4X4 truck. Removed body, lengthened frame. Installed Pontiac 389 V8 with 4 speed.
Added Peterbilt cab with butterfly hood and shuttered grill. Custom built fenders. Dash had all Classic instruments and had Elcamino bucket seats.
Custom made 10’ flatbed.

1946 Ford pickup. Bought in Renton East hill early 70’s. Great running flathead V8. Drove for a couple years as a work truck. Striped truck installed 327 V8 with built Turbo 350 trans. 3000 RPM stall converter, 10 bolt rear end. Rechromed all exterior parts. Painted Borden Grey by Kenny Wakefield. Complete mohair Forest green interior , front disc brakes. Show truck quality. Took ISCA Best of Show Street car in Canada and ISCA best West Coast custom rod pickup.

1973 Ford F250 4X4 pickup. White 360V8 4 speed. Bought new Horizon Ford.

1975 Dodge B100 panel van Black on black 360 V8 auto. Bought new at Auburn Dodge.


1976 Ford F250 4X4 pickup. Yellow 360 4Speed. Bought new in Auburn. Upholstered in brown roll and pleat.
Installed Built 428 Police Interceptor engine built by Don Wilson. Made custom mohair/ vinyl roll and pleat interior. Custom painted by Gary Foster Metallic green and white.Used it for pulling 1946 pickup to shows. Also was shown in ISCA shows.

1932 all steel Ford 3 window coupe. Bought from Rick Popps wife.
Made custom 4 bar frame with front torsion bar. Polished Halibrand Grand National rear end. Built Chevy 400 small block to 406 by Foster Machine.
4 speed Muncie trans. Custom interior. Painted black

1971 Chevy Chevelle “Heavy Chevy”. 350 automatic. Painted by me yellow with a pearl clear coat. Sold to John Peterson. Judy still has it.

1971 Chevy El camino pu. 350 automatic. Dark brown installed SS hood and stripes. Upholstered in brown cloth. needed roof repair

1972 El camino pu. 454 with cam and headers, Was gold painted dark green. Full OE upholstery kit.

1968 Ford F100 short bed pickup. Blue 360V8 granny 4 speed .

1984 Ford E100 panel van. Cherry red. 6cyl automatic work truck

1974 Ford F250 360 automatic Cherry red rough work truck.

1968 Ford F250 V8 granny trans. Red and white. Rusty bed. Replaced with service box.

1973 Dodge single axle dump truck. V8 5 speed.

My condolences.

When I was heading into that area of life, I found a G20 3/4 ton short wheelbase van conversion. Saved me from that stigma.
