Limburger and onions sandwiches?

/ Limburger and onions sandwiches? #11
My dad was Irish, and my mom was German. Every once in a while, Mom would fix up some Limburger and onions sandwiches. As a kid, I thought it smelled like baked gym socks. I would never try it. Hell, they used to keep it in a mason jar in the fridge because it was so horrible.

Now that I'm their age, I would like to see if there is something to their love of them. My sweety and I are going to give it a try.

Any experience, advice, or recipes you all have to share?

Thanks
Dave
Grew up with the same experience. My grandfather and his siblings would get together and when they did it was Limburger and red onions on pumpernickel bread.

The next time I get together with my son in law we're going to try it. He'll eat anything! :ROFLMAO:

Brings back memories of Mom and Dad. I could smell that stuff when they brought it into the house. Let alone the refrigerator. Very pungent.

Never tried it, cannot get past the smell.

Hey - it could be very good. Who knows??? I love Lute Fisk. Anybody ever tried this. A Norwegian delicacy.

Nope. I've heard of it and watched the videos. I could smell it through the screen!

If someone had it, I'd try it. :p

I was at a fancy dinner party and one of the hors d'oeuvres was a little sandwich of and in this order...

Saltine cracker
Peanut butter
Mayo
Sharp cheder cheese
tomato based salsa.

I was skeptical but I tried it. It was amazing. It was all everyone could talk about.

I will make it sometimes when the old lady says were having yogurt for dinner.

Looking back at the people I knew that LOVED Limburger cheese, it was mostly people with German and Austria area family heritage. Maybe it is a taste of the old world.

One guy that would bring it in at work would also bring in great tasting smoked salmon.
