Tractor
Kubota B8200, 1953 International "Super C"
I went by the Kubota dealer and was kicking the tires, The L3200 and L3400 tractors had my attention. I am thinking of replacing my trusty B8200 gear shift with a new HST that has power steering.

The first thing that i noticed is that the L3200 was very spartan, but that was fine. The dealer mentioned the 0% financing. The 3200 can go 48 months, the 3400 can go 60. Why?

After doing some more digging i see that the 2800,3200,4400 are one line, and the 3200, 3800 are another.

Why? what is the big difference in the lines? is one doomed and the other the new model? I hate to buy something only to find out that i bought the last one again! and didn't get a deal!

Anyone wish they had bought one or the other? What are the draw backs?

I have an L3400 HST and really like it except it seems light on the rear when using the FEL. Basically unusable without the weight box or rear impliment on board even though the rear tires are loaded. My local dealer says they are dicontinuing the 3400 and I believe I read the same thing on this site in the last week or so. But I still generally like the tractor

To clear them out...

They are dropping the 28/3400... replacements are the 32/3800. The dealer gets (I think) $500 to move them out...

Are the new ones worth more??? My L2800 is fine... it might be slower but the price worked for me.

Just for kicks, see if there is any difference in very slowly raising a boxblade up on the 3 point hitches, both of them. Have the dealer mount one and try it out...

The 3400 does not have a loader installed, I just looked at it, Said that was a deal breaker, and kept walking. He said the loader would be NO PROBLEM.

So if they are discontinuing a line of tractors can i still get accessories? I wouldn't want to lose my chance at getting rear services and a back hoe.

This line of tractor actually "evolves"... being upgraded and improved until the point where it is now. Many, many parts that are on the 3200 will work on my 2800... parts are used over a few different models. The backhoe fits so many models, the subframe might even be the same for the two models, so ask your dealer...

It comes down to the price vs. what you get. Some of us plan to keep the tractor for life... Make sure this is the tractor you'll need for a long time.

I didn't see what you plan to use the tractor for... the newer models have better FEL as an option.

They emailed me with the prices, 23.5K for the L3200, 25.2K for the L3400. Both have HST, R4 tires, Q/A fronts, and winterized to 60 below.

Seems VERY high.

I use the tractors for my landscaping, and to keep up my wife's horse yard. Being in Alaska i also do snow removal, sometimes a lot of snow

We have a nice simple house on a hillside lot. I am in the process of terracing the land for gardens, improving the driveway, and preparing for a shop.

My in laws property has our horse yard and land that i am developing in pasture.

Moving the hay, we use 800# square bales, before and after the horses is the main job for the tractor. Plowing several drive ways is second.

Does anyone know if Kubota has freight averaging? Being in Alaska we get high prices for some things and freight costs are high.

The other explanation is that my local dealer has decided a 30% mark up is the best method for him. Ouch

I will call him and ask nicely about this, if we can't work this out it may be time to go green. (oh my grandfather is going to roll his eyes)

Just a little back ground

I was raised in Minnesota north of the twin cites around St. Cloud. The farm is still owned by the family, but under lease to another local farmer. Who happens to be my fathers best friend.

In the first 2 years of the 1950's my great grandfather traded in his Farmall tractors for new ones, and 350 and a Super C. My great grandfather had one child, a duaghter, so his operation was all based on one man working. He never baled hay, he blew it in loose.

When i graduated i joined the US Air Force. This brought me to Alaska, and i stayed. Now my lovely bride has horses, and being raised by a farmer i use livestock type methods.

We had to clear land and build a horse yard. The first day her and my FIL showed up with a wheel barrow, a chain saw, loopers, and a hatchet.

I brought a back hoe! she now refers to my method of land clearing as "heavy equipment and Napalm"

The first year we cleaned by hand and hauled the apples with a garden trailer behind a ATV. Everyone sweated. SO we bought a B8200 because it was the only thing less than 100 HP that I could find. It has been a great tractor.

Now SHE wants to upgrade tractors, so i sure am not going to argue!
