I was mowing some very tall grass this weekend and when I finished I noticed the transmission housing and PTO spline were very hot to the touch (could only keep hand on them for 2 secs). Fluid level is good and the fluid looks new (only 30 hrs on tractor). This is the first time I have really worked the PTO on the tractor and I have never noticed this with my old 2350 (manual tranny). Is this normal? Does the the L3130 GST have a transmission/hydraulic cooler? Thanks for your advice.

Both my old 3130 and new 5030 get pretty warm at the PTO shaft. Both are HST though. Not sure if it is normal, but it doesn't seem to have any ill effects.

I expected the it to get warm but not as hot as it did. My old tractor did not have a loader etc so perhaps the extra load is to blame. Anyone else have high temps with a GST? Also, is there a hydraulic cooler on the l3130?

If you were mowing tall grass/ weeds you probably clogged the screens that cover the radiator and hyd cooler. Watch the temp gauge and clean them when the temp goes up slightly. With time, you will be able to determine normal temps with a load vs restricted air flow.

There are also small holes in the hood / sides that strain out some chunks from the air stream. You need to push them off too.
