Hello all, I have been looking at a Kubota L 3010 HST and was wondering if this would be a good tractor for me. As far as before I have always had a Fordson dexta for my tractor work but its age is really showing and seems to be down more than its up. The tractor will mainly be used to do gardening work (plowing, cultivating, etc.), bushhogging and maintaining gravel driveways. The 3010 Im looking at has 800 hrs, is HST, and includes a loader(a plus since I have never had one). The dealer said he had a backhoe that would fit it for 2000.00 more, it is a 3 point hitch type. Anyway the tractor looks pretty good and seems to run very well. The dealer said the previous owner had a problem with the front end and they replaced the entire front drivetrain, supposedly from having the wrong size tires on front? That being said the tractor asking price with loader is $10,000, do you think this tractor would be enough size wise to do what I want and is the price right for the tractor? Thanks in advance.

I looked at an L3010 when I was buying - gosh, 9 years ago now. Ended up with a larger one, but the 3010 was a nice size tractor, and well made also. The only issue I recall hearing was owners who had hills or required lots of horsepower on the pto found it somewhat underpowered for its size. If you stay with 5 ft implements (mower, tiller, box blade, etc.), it should do fine for you.

Thanks for the replys guys. Went back to look at the tractor again today and I must have heard the dealer wrong the first time cause the hours are 2200 not 800 hours. Now the price sounds high for that amount of hours what do you think?

Just an opinion about the price. The hours, well, yes, 2200 hrs is more than your average for a 10 year old "weekend farmer's" machine, but it's nothing for a tractor that was used commercially or in real farming. The mechanicals in those Kubota's are some of the best you can buy and, with good care, can last way, way longer than that. So, the 2200 hours wouldn't put me off at all.

I'd go more by the condition of the tractor than the outright hours on the meter. If it's a well-cared for machine, it's easily worth the asking price. If anything, $10,000, with FEL, is less than the norm. One on-line site has 7 L3010's listed, ranging from 10,500 to 14,000, although they are all fewer hours than the one you're looking at.

However, I would be concerned about that front end repair. The tractor didn't come new from the dealer with the "wrong size tires" on it... they would have had to be changed later. So, did they wear out the originals, put another set on of the incorrect size, bung up the front end, fix it, put more new tires on it and then trade it? And now they are selling it for way less than market price? If that's the story, I'm not sure whoever did that could be trusted to take good care of the rest of the tractor very well either.

The offer of a $2000 backhoe only reinforces that concern, since that's also well below what one in good condition should go for.

If you are a gambling sort of fella, you might have a chance to get a good deal on a nice tractor. But you just as likely might be purchasing a 5,000 lb headache on wheels.

I own a 2000 L3010 HST. Bought it with 200 hours on it and now have 900 plus on it, I have owned it for five years. When I bought it I Had just purchased 35 acres of heavely wooded land. I cleared approximatley 15 acres of tha land using mainly this machine, and borrowed a 580C back hoe for the stuff i could not do with the L3010.

At times i wished I had a larger tractor (lifting 1,300# round bales over a feeder ring. Just use the 3 ponit instead of the loader instead) but could never justify it since this tractor has done more than what I expected it to be able to. It pulls a 6 foot finish mower every weekend during the summer to mow 7 of the 15 acres. I also use a 6 foot brush hog once a month, 5 foot box blade, six foot angle blade and drag tons of trees out of the woods and is extreamly manuvarable. (sp)

Bottom line is its a good machine and will do MORE than what you said you wanted it for. I dont think the price they gave you is that bad.

Just my .02
