Priced Kubota engine oil at the dealer yesterday at $2.14 a quart. Have gotten differing opinions about which is better (Kubota vs Brand x). Of course the dealer says they only use Kubota. My inclination is to find a brand name with CD or CX and go with it I seriously doubt warranty will be an issue. Anybody using non-Kubot oil?? What about synthetics and who makes synthetic rated for diesel.???

(This qeustion has probably been worn out more than once but there are still inquisitive minds out there)

I was concerned about not using Kubota oil and warranty issues also so I asked the dealer what oil they would recommend expecting it to be Kubota oil. They told me any diesel rated oil in the proper viscosity range would be fine and not affect the warranty.

I may use Kubota oil for a while until some one comes up with a good reason not to. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I saw another post where it was stated that Valvoline supplies diesel oil for Kubota. For me, as long as the oil is API service rated for diesels, there's not really a strong push to use engine oil with Kubota on the label.

I use 15w-40 Shell ROTELLA in my BX1800, this is the very same oil that my dealer uses for all Kubota and New holland which he also sells. I use my tractor year round to mow and snow blow, it does stay in a heated garage so cold starting isn't and issue.

I use New Holland oil and it costs about the same as whatever brand oil you'd like to buy elsewhere.
I think it's actually a federal law (check at the fast change oil places for details), but on cars/trucks if the maker says you HAVE to use their brand of filters (and I think fluids) or it voids the warranty then the manufacter has to furnish you with the products.

I think that is the Moss-Magnuson Act you are referring to.

I use Mobil Delvac 1300 Super, it costs $1.31 a quart in bulk.

My dealer put Rotella in it but says all the heavy duty diesel oils are fine, and all the major oil companies make one.

all the majior brands make good oil that can be used in your tractor. MHO is that that brand don't matter!

I checked the local Wally World (cheapest place around here)today after reading another post. The only oil that had a SAE diesel rating was 15-40W and a $1.98 a quart and by buying by case or gallon the Kubota was close enough (.10-.20 cents) that I might as well just by the Kubota oil! The other reason is I know he will always have it.

I just did my 50 hr maint. Went to the local Kubota dealer and asked him to stock me up with all the materials I would need. He gave me Kubota filters, but all the fluids were branded Case. They are the dealer ... the prices were not exorbitant .... I saw no reason to quibble.
