Kubota L3540
I believe I've made up my mind to order a new Kubota L3540HST 37hp w/R4 tires this week. I'm going with the 724 loader and I think it comes with a 72" bucket and WR Long 3rd valve on the loader. I'll also buy forks and either make a spear or get one that will attach to the forks or just buy a separate spear, Not sure yet on cost of each. I have a few questions as I want to get everything I can at first.

Is the 72" bucket to big for the 59.8" tractor or should I opt for the 66" bucket?
Should I opt for the heavy duty bucket?
Tooth bar?
How about a bolt on grapple for the bucket, not sure of the cost yet? BOG

With the extendable links I don't think you would get that much easier hookup with a Pat's system. Try the links first and see how much of a issue hook up is before you go for a Pats. When I got my loader I got the standard bucket. The HD bucket weighs 100 pounds more, so that take 100 pounds off your lift capacity. Also I had abused a standard bucket for over 12 years and it looked like it would have lasted another 100 years. If your scraping lots of stuff off concret or asphalt, like 8 hours a day all year, I would get the HD bucket but for just farm work the standard is actually better I think. I've never had a tooth bar, always wanted one, they are better for digging dirt I've heard. What are you going to be hauling in your bucket? If its heavy stuff like gravel or sand I would get the 60 incher. If your hauling mulch and leaves get the 72.

I have an L3240HSTC with a 72" heavy duty bucket and bolt on cutting edge on a 724 loader. Your L3540 should have no problem handling a 72" bucket. You could possibly fill the bucket with more than the 724 will lift, but I usually lose traction before that happens. You don't really need the heavy duty bucket unless you plan on moving alot rock and gravel, it's just my dealer had one in stock and didn't charge me extra for it. The wider bucket is nice if you push snow with it. I have a set of 48" skid steer forks that I probably use more than the bucket, very handy! Good luck, you will love the L3540, Ive had my L3240 for 4 years and don't know what I'd do without it!

I don't think it would have a problem with a 72" bucket but my preference would be for the bucket to be no wider (or slightly wider) than the outside of the wheels. Also, I converted to skid steer quick attach and now can't imagine not having the SSQA. You could then just buy a separate grapple like I did instead of bolting on. Just my $0.02

That was my thoughts on the bucket width but this IS my first tractor so, what do I know.

I am planning on just renting a grapple when I need one but if the bolt on is reasonable $ and works well and doesn't get in the way when I don't need it, I would buy one. I just don't know anyone that has one and really don't want to drop $2k for one that I likely will rarely use.

My general uses will be simple stuff around the farm and moving round bales for the horses, otherwise, I would have gotten the L3800. Until now, I have bought them one at a time, every 5 days over the winter months. BUT NOT ANY MORE!

I like the tooth-bars(they do unbolt if needed),I chose a Green's Machine Thumb for my HD bucket. Both work very well for me.

The L3540 is a really nice little tractor and will do about anything you need done. A lot of people really like the PATS, but mine are lying in the barn somewhere as hooking up with the extendable links is pretty easy. They are a great company though if you decide to go that route.

The L3540 will have 4 possible rear wheel widths depending on which side of the wheel faces out and which side of the spacers you bolt the wheel to. If I remember correctly the outside measurement of my L3240 rear tires from sidewall to sidewall is 68"'. That leaves the bucket only 2" wider on each side. Sidewall width doesn't matter much in dirt, but it can in snow.

I have a L3540 with the 72 inch heavy duty bucket on the L724 Loader. I also have the bolt on cutting edge. I can push into a pile of wet gravel and lift a heaping bucket with no issue at all. I don't regret getting the heavier bucket. I know this is an old post, but I just joined and wanted to contribute a little. I've learned a lot by reading here. Thanks.
