Kubota B7800
Hi. I'm new to the forum and a new owner of a 2008 Kubota B7800. So far I love this tractor. It cranks every time but it seems to drag a bit on the starter. Can't read the cold cranking amps on the battery and was wondering what I need for a 30 hp. Don't want to keep straining the starter. Thanks.

Welcome!
I believe your tractor takes a Group 51R battery.
Those usually come in at about 450 CCA.
A popular size for Honda cars.
Good Luck!

I have to use the glow plugs just about everytime I start mine, other wise it has to turn over to long. It has been that way as long as I have had it and it had 149 hrs on it when I got it.

One day your will probably not start. Rock the foot pedal till it's centered while turning the key. You'll know it when you see it, if you remember this. It's a part of most B7800. Great machine, had one for 3 years and done lots of major and minor jobs with it.

Thanks for the info. Not sure about the Honda comment but thanks also.

John, I will try that this afternoon.

My comment is when it does nothing, not when it turns slow. It's for future reference. There is a safety switch under the pedal that stops starting, dead, does nothing, if it isn't centered and the B7800 has a history of the pedal being very tempermental about being dead center. You can try it now but it will, probably, not have any effect on your slow turning problem.

Ditto since I bought it new, mine is a kissin' cousin to the B7800. There's a chart in the owner's manual that tells how long to use glow plugs for various temps. Above 32F it's 2-3 seconds, below it's 5 sec, below -5F it's 10 sec.

My second Kubota, about 10 years ago, was a B7800 which I owned for 3 years. Never used the glow plugs and it started as quick as any I've owned. We don't usually, until this year, have severe winters.

After realizing I needed to replace the group 51R battery in my 2005 B3030 (very similar tractor) for the second time, I decided it was time for an upgrade. The 51R was never really adequate in my opinion. I did a little measuring and decided a group 34 would fit in the stock location with little modification. I went from 450 CCA with the 51R to 800 CCA with the 34. Now I can glow plug with reckless abandon !

There is no substitute for CCA when it comes to starting a diesel. I also size up if I can fit it.
