What are some chemical options to keep EVERYTHING from growing in a limestone graveled parking lot?
Depending on the size of the area to be treated, try borax...the "Twenty Mule Team" stuff sold as a laundry booster....
...it will be less toxic to kids, dogs and wildlife, but it is very good at killing plant life and vermin like roaches, ants, crickets etc.
It will kill existing plants and any seeds that sprout and attempt to root in the treated soil.
Boron and borates are very persistent, so you better not want to grow anything in that general area for some time to come.
If you have rain in the near future, you can scatter the borax powder, or make a solution to spray.
I have used borax powder to treat a 6" "death strip" around the foundation of my house on the beautiful Texas Gulf Coast and have zero problems with roaches, ants, crickets or termites while most of my neighbors have the usual complaints that come with living in the tropics and several houses in my area are in deep trouble from severe infestations of the Formosan Termite.
This material is safe enough for humans and house pets that you can scatter it in the corners of your cabinets and under appliances.
I treat the cracks in the sidewalk with a solution of l lb of borax dissolved in 2 gal of hot water and applied with a pump sprayer.
You can even use the stuff as a home-brew wood preservative....a formula I got from the Navy is 60% borax and 40% boric acid...about 1 pound of the mix dissolved in a gallon of hot water and brushed or sprayed on to the wood in question.
Good luck and good hunting...
