Jim Beam.....Going to Japan

Well.......a little sad this morning....a dear friend.....Jim Beam.....is moving ownership to Japan.....least it ain't China!

Japan's Suntory pays $16 billion for Beam - Jan. 13, 2014

It will still be Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. I think Japanese ownership will only help in its marketing and improve the value of the brand. Jim Beam has always been a good, median quality bourbon. I became fond of it in one military service club that used Beam as the bar bourbon.

Yea I know.....but still hate all the foreign investors buying up American companies. Good business decision I guess....sign of the times!

Get into mutual funds and you'll be the owner of many foreign companies! How's that for fair play? hahahaa  But seriously, its a global market. You have to adapt. Nothing is ever the way it was as everything always changes. I will be the first to say "I hate change!" but in reality, I like indoor plumbing, soda pop in cans, and hydro transmissions. hee hee
My father was a WWII vet. He fought in the South Pacific against the Japanese. I was born in the early 60's. Until he died in the 90's, he always had a Chevy and a Volskwagen or a Chevy and a Toyota in the garage. I figure if he could get past the Germans and Japanese, so could I. ;)

I think you're right on both points, jinman. It's good Whiskey going to a responsible owner.
And Jerrybob, I share your sentiment about where it didn't go - one of the rare exceptions, lately.

Living in the Philippines now, puregold warehouse store (think Cosco) has Even Williams bourbon on sale now, buy one take one. Great deal for Tn bourbon that had to travel over 9000 miles.

Stockholders have to vote on it first! The Japaneese company has been marketing Beam brands in Japan for years. True Kentucky Bourbon is very popular there!

Didn't the parent company of Heiniken buy Anheiser-Busch years ago? And Coors acquired Molson Canada, or was it the other way around? I'm sure the new owners will do everything to protect their investment. I don't foresee any big changes.
