I was all set to purchase a new JD 4710 till the dealer tempted me with a new JD TLB110.

I would appreciate input from anyone having experience with either machine.

Thanks,

I don't think a 110 can be compared to a 4710. A 110 is a small real TLB with good hyd capabilities. If your thinking of spending 40K . Its a good deal (tractor) only if your take advantage of the hydrolics front & rear. Its almost comparable to a skid steers power.I have a 275s which is a 217s or even close to a 310 now. Can't keep up with the #s.If you get a 110 you better have work for it, cause it can do it quick.
Farmer/equestrian work the 4710 mightb be better.

Thanks for your comments.

I've configured a 4710 with both the 460FEL and 48Hoe. Also included TNT and a number of other attachments. I was all set to buy until the dealer said for essentially the same money, I could buy a TLB 110.

I recently purchased 19 acres out behind my place and there is initially a fair bit of what I would deem to be heavy FEL and HOE work. In the long term I'm establishing the land as a tree farm/nursery.

My thoughts are the 4710 is the all around more practical machine. Plus I can keep it in my garage. However, when I think of the initial "Heavy" work that I would like to do I think the 110 will certianly handle it better. Then I could use the PTO on the 110 to work the tree farm.

Struggling to decide and looking for differentiators!

Thanks again for your thoughts.

rockfj,

No direct experience with either but in general, compare the hydraulic pumping capacity of the two. (ignor the power steering capacity) While you're comparing, some manufacturers publish a thorough listing of various force and range of motions for their hoes.

Also, I assume that the 110 has a seat that turns around to use the hoe end. I've never used one that has a separate seat for the hoe, but it seems that it would be a pain to switch seats every time you reposition the tractor.

Another thing of interest to me at least is how long it takes to remove the hoe so you can use the tractor with another implement.

And as someone said, the hydraulic possibilities never end. Even on the hoe, you might want to add a hydraulic thumb...

I found myself in a similar position, and so I went out and bought a used Case 580D backhoe and a tractor. Best of both worlds, and cheaper to boot.

As you say, the 110 has a beefier loader and backhoe. The loader capacity of the 110 is about double the 4710 from what I understand.
The 110 can use most skidsteer attachments as the loader mount is the same. Things like a tree spade, of which I don't know of a 3 point version. The 4710 loader uses a specific quick attach which would require conversion to a skidsteer mount.

The backhoe can be had with a thumb from the factory which would be handy. The conversion from backhoe to tractor doesn't take but a few minutes with practice.

Now, some for the 4710:

The 4710 has more pto power by like 10-12 hp. Can be signifigant if you see a lot of heavy rototilling or bushogging in your future.

The canpoy folds down for those times when limbs are in the way or if your garage door is a little short.

The loader on the 4710 is removable for mowing chores if needed. Removing the loader on a 110 would require quite a bit of work.

I'm guessing your comparing a hydro trans on the 4710 as that's all the 110 comes with.

Hey Scott,

I've seen 3pth mounted tree spades up here before. Never paid any attention to them though to tell you the truth,so I do not know who made them. Might be the same company that makes them for loaders and trucks.

I would drive the 110 TLB and see how you like it compared to the 4710. Both are nice units but I don't believe we have ever sold one at the dealership I just saw one at the MN state fair. The seat flips with a lever and it's real easy. I would probably take one over a 4710 for the same price. Looks more heavy duty and the loader is nicer. You also get the same composite fenders as with the 4710 but a steeper sloping hood with I find to be nicer than the 4710. Also the dashboard is on the left fender and the throttle is not as easy to get at as with the 4710. Good luck!

My story varies but only by color. I was all set to get the L4610 from Kubota and then the L48 came out. Got the L48, had it a year and a half. Great tractor, but to awkward to mow with. I now have a L3830 which suits my needs beautifully. The removeable loader is a major advantage. The range on the HST is more suitable on the L3830 over the L48 as well. I would not have the L48 or JD 110 if my needs were varied from mowing to tilling etc. If your loading or hoeing, they would be a tough match for the compacts because of the much heavier loader and hoe.

Thanks for the correction. Tree spades are not common here so I don't have much information to go on. The only one I have ever seen was for a bobcat.
