The 4010 has 14 HP at the PTO. Is that enough HP to use a brush hog on 3 ft. high weeds and 1 inch sampling while mowing on hilly land ?

I have a 4 ft on a 2210, It seems to work just fine, don't think you will have a problem. Maybe some 4010 owners will chime in.

I have a 4010 and a 5' b.h., and would not advise another 4010 owner to use a 5'. It works OK, until you are going up a hill in 3' high weeds, then the tractor is REALLY working hard. I have to take 1/2 a pass under those conditions.

I don't think you will have any problem with a 4' on 3' high grass or 1" saplings. Just remember to BE CAREFUL at all times, but especially on hills.

Also remember that the brush hog can flip up if it catches on something...to the point it can hit you in the back of the head if it is not restrained.

Oh...and get a couple extra hats, becasue as you mow past a tree branch that knocks your hat off, you will have nothing but mouse nest material when your B.H. runs over it!
And your favorite beverage container/cooler/cup...not much left of that either.

Knowledge is something you get right after you needed it... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

What size/hp is this model?

What type of mower is this? if it is 3pt.. the toplink and bracket would have to break, and the pto shaft.. for the mower to flip up and back up onto you...

I'm using a 5' Land Pride cutter on my 16 HP (at the PTO) Deere 670.
It's been doing a heck of a good job on some really thick brush and saplings up to 1½". I can't even see through some of this stuff (another good reason to go slow). And, some of this brush is 4 to 5 feet tall.

Just go slow, friend...and you should be fine with that 4' cutter.

As far as flipping up...if you're using only chains and not using the top link, reckon this could happen. So, use that top link! Use chains too, if you think you need 'em...but use that top link!

I ues a toplink on my hog. I also use a chain from the top of the 3 point hitch on the hog to the rear of the hog. No metal straps, which aloows to hog to follow the land contours. Works great, sort of like having the benefits of a tow behind and 3 point cutter combined. I agree with Soundguy. To have the hog hit me it would have to crush both the driveline and the toplink. Also my old hog is heavy duty about 600 lbs for a 5 foot cutter. Be pretty hard to throw that over a foot or so high.

Thanks for the info. I will probably but a JD2210 instead of a 4010. Thanks, Joe
