JD 2720
Hi all, I'm new to the forum.
I posted this in the general section...then noticed this specific John Deere section, so thought I'd post it here also.

Anyway, I'm not sure what it's actually called....but on a JD 2720 and probably other similar models as well, there is an "adjustment knob" down close to the floor panel, directly between your legs.

I know its some sort of hydraulic flow adjustment....and can be adjusted from "fast to slow" etc., but unsure exactly what it's function is and how it affects hydraulic power and performance.

I think it slows down the hydraulics some so your attachments are not so quick and jerky, but does it also reduce the hydraulics power ?

Can it be adjusted to make the FEL and 46 backhoe attachment more smooth...and less herky-jerky, without reducing the digging/lifting power ?

I'm currently looking at a used 2720 to possibly purchase, but would like some more info before I pull the trigger.

Thanks Jeff

It is called a ROD or "rate of drop" valve, it only controls how fast the 3PH (three point hitch) lowers, it will have zero effect on anything else. Unless seriously something is wrong with the machine, then I suspects its just your not used to the controls or operating at to high of an RPM. These are solid machines!

Here is the online manual for the 2720: OMLVU19798_F9

The section called "Using the 3-Point Hitch" describes it use.

Also, FYI here is the other manuals:

Loader: OMW56435

46 Backhoe: OMLVU17729_F6

KennyD says it all, you might back off on the RPMs as I find with my 2520, that has similar hydraulics, that you don't need to have the engine RPM's cranked up to get digging power.
