Cyril:

Right now, subject to change, Aug. 14 will be the last Saturday of my vacation and I plan on being in Eastern. Wa. But one never knows. I would enjoy meeting you in person. I still want to know how you snapped the pix of that socket coming out of the soup on the end of a magnent. For me that would most assuredly mean another fishing expedition that would take much longer.

Heard from the dealer yesterday that the rest of my parts are in. I'll be picking them up this morning.

It's just a matter of assembling all the pieces now. The old lift link has a lot of wear in it which is why I decided to replace it. For example, the upper ball in the old lift link has around 1/8" of verticle movement in it. The new one I picked up this morning has around 1/32". That's just the ball. Every other portion of the link is just as worn. The threads for adjusting it have enough wear that the shaft and lower body have noticable wobble between them. The new ones are tight. I should loose 1/4" to 1/2" of verticle play in the lift link after it is replaced.

It's kind of funny really. When I got the tractor, everything was so worn that hooking up impliments was easy. I couldn't understand why others were having so much trouble. As I have been repairing things and the machine keeps getting tighter, it's getting harder and harder to hook up the impliments.:( I'm actually getting to the point of considering a quick hitch rather than keep fighting to do the hook ups.

I was mistaken at what time the dealership opened this morning. I got there at 7:15 and they didn't open until 8:00. I killed time by looking at the different tractors they had on the lot. It suprised me to find that I had to look at a 5065E before I even got close to the size of my 2240. The 5065E was a pretty good match, but I think my 2240 still outweighs it. I had been told that I would need to be somewhere between a 5xxx and 6xxx series tractor to match what I have now, but I had never really looked close at the new ones until today and I don't think I really believed it until now.

After really looking at the tractors this morning, I'm glad I bought the used tractor I did.

Seeing the pics of that lift cylinder apart reminds me of several 40 series tractors we had that split that cylinder apart using 3pt reversible ploughs !

I guess I forgot to update this thread. Been busy getting ready for the picnic I'm hosting next month. I got the lift links replaced and that is probably all I'll get to before winter. Things seem to be working well, but I will still need to play with the adjustments later. Depth control works great, but load (draft) control is out of whack. Just the vibration of the tractor starts lifting the 3PH. Well I don't really need load control right now and that will give me something to play with this winter.
