John Deere 4520 cab... formerly Yanmar 336D
I intended to purchase an inverted snowblower for this year and never got around to it, and now I"m really regretting it! I'd hoped to find a "previously enjoyed" one, but didn't jump on the two I found fast enough.

I have flat terrain to deal with, and little drifting (happens infrequently). Right now I plow with my '96 F350 dump, but I'll likely be moving that along in the next 8 months after a few summer projects.

So, my question... how well does the inverted blower work on this size tractor (4520 or similar Kubota etc... larger frame size for. CUT, 60 hp) in terms of how deep of snow can you drive through OK? I imagine a foot or more is probably fine, but then you I have the snow bank the plow leaves to contend with as well. I might leave the loader on just for that reason.

Sorry for the rambling, but it's been a long day of driving in our current winter storm, then getting in this evening and plowing (and getting stuck due to the ice from our last warm up), and using my cabbed 4520 with a blower is on my mind.

Thank you for any and all experiences / observations!

I've watched quite a few videos on Youtube about the reverse blowers.

Driving through 1' of snow should be no problem. I can run my '64 MF 35 Utility through 1' with ease as long as I've got chains on. Mine is 2wd.

I have had an inverted blower for 9 years. First on a 2 WD Nuffield 465 and now on a Kubota M7040.

Rear tire chains are big help.

If you have a drift, you just back into it and then drag part of it forward as the blower deals with it.
Repeat as necessary..

Plow banks. It works well to stay in your lane way, back into the bank with the blower lifted up, drop it and move forward never going unto the road.
It will take several "pulls" to get all the plow left but not a big problem

It is all a question of how fast you want to go. If you have HST then you can go as slowly as needed to match the pto power to the blower's needs.

With my gear 2 WD Nuffield, using a back up style blower was always a pain as any reverse gear was too fast.

With the inverted blower and using forward gears I had a much greater selection to choose from.

I plow long trails and long lanes for my family members.

If the snow is not too deep I am traveling close to 10 mph while blowing. You cannot do that backing up, blowing snow and stay in control.

My blower is made by Smyth Welding in Ontario. Very sturdy and price reasonable.

There are much more industrial inverted blowers made in Canada by NORMAND and PRONOVOST but the price is too much unless you have a big business.

Thank you! We sometimes get a 3' storm, but when I plowing I generally had to plow a few times during storms that big.

An inverted blower really sounds like the way to go. I was thinking chains all around as I had them for my old Yanmar 336D (that I plowed with before I had a truck) and they really helped. I used some ice chains on the front and double ring chains on the rear (kind of a northeast thing if I understand. They work well though!)

I'm going to keep watching the want-ads for a used Normand or Provonost, but will check out Smyth too. I know Erskine has an inverted blower too (that my Deere dealer mentioned of course!). I keep hoping Woods or one of the other big manufacturers will start making an inverted blower and bring the price down.

I have a rear pull on a 3720 and can have gotten thru 18inches plus of old compacted snow - if you can drive thru it you can blow it. I have a pronovost P-74-INV and think that it is super easy to use and well made and efficient. From reading a lot of threads on plowsite it seems like the go to brands are Pronovost or normand. You are close to Canada -keep an eye for used up there as well- you can import it yourself duty-free. I think 4 wheel chains help a lot. I have looked at the erskine but they don't seem to be as nicely made.

You might consider a buhler/ farm king snow blower as they make an inverted, pull type version

Lots of dealers and used equipment in New York and Ontario. Agdealer.com Exchange rate makes it ~20% off. Relatively inexpensive, made in Winnipeg, MB. NAFTA product, no tariff (US Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Heading/subheading 8430.20.00).

I have a Buhler / FarmKing 7420, hydraulic chute controls, 74" wide, 3pt snowblower, 30" cuttting height, running 35hp at the PTO @2600 rpm, 4WD, chained on all four. Full width cuts into 3' wind packed snow drifts, travel speed 1.5 mph. V-plow windrowed cold, dry snow about 5 mph. Wet, rained on, heavy, refrozen berms of same height and its down to 0.6 mph. Worked well the past 4 winters. More Hp or partial cuts equals faster speeds.

The amount of time I spend looking over my shoulder when snow blowing is minimal, road is 1,800 feet and my driveway and those in my neighborhood that I clear are 200 to 500 feet, so it is easy to set the hand throttle, stand up and face backwards and steer with my hand behind me and hold onto the ROPS with the other. Alot like piloting a sailboat.
