I gave up on Steak during my first marriage cause wife couldn't cook and she only bought round steak and chicken. First chicken dinner ruined me on chicken for over 20 years because it was raw and squirted blood across the table when I bit in to it. Best Wife cooks well and now I enjoy everything.

I just had an upright freezer given to me and the guy said it is rusted out at the lower door hinge and he was tired of the ratchet strap to keep it closed. It was about 25 years old he thought. It looked horrible but still ran fine just that the poor seal caused too much frost buildup. I am almost at the point where I would rather buy a old unit that runs than a brand new one you just get a couple years out of...

I took it off his hands and made a new bottom for the door and it swings well on the hinges and seals nicely. I have it running empty in my shop with the thermostat set at about 15 degrees. I put one of the I think it is an econowatt something power consumption monitors and it uses about 3 KWh per day to run.

The purpose for this is because with all of the freezers in mine as well as my four kids houses there is this constant fear of one breaking down. In the spring and summer no big deal, there is space to distribute contents to other freezers but this time of year they are all full. This one just idles empty in the shop with a LED temp gauge on the top as a family "insurance" freezer.

I assume all the ones with circuit boards still cycle on and off with about 4 degrees difference just like the others? I bought what is my second garage freezer at the start of the pandemic when all I could get was a Maytag. It had a bad circuit board from the start. Instead of having a simple dial, I press a button to select from one of 3 pre set temperatures. Most of us that buy basic garage freezers want something simple, but they seem set on giving us features.

these circuit boards control the defrost cycle, temp cycle, etc,. I don't believe you can purchase a new appliance without one.

As far as meats. I'm a filet man. The steer I had butchered recently, produced some very good steaks

Always something to learn... wonder if this is worth a try on a compresses air dryer?

Same type of compressor.

They won't ship anything Lithium to Alaska any longer. Probably because it comes by Air. I have to by lithium batteries locally at 2-3 times the Amazon price. It irritates me.

On a good note, a pair of alkaline AAs in one freezer sensor has lasted over a year so far.
My Acurite 00986 units showed up, thank you Amazon and no shipping cost. The Lithium batteries did not however. It looks like there is a shipping problem with them, says Delivery Date Pending. Maybe they needed to be put on an Airplane to get here

Nothing ventured nothing gained. Certainly worth a try.

We have 6 chest freezer in the 7-9cuft range that we normally use. A 14 & 18cf upright we only use for quick freezing meat when we butcher pigs or a beef, then it gets distributed among the chest freezers, and the uprights cut off. The power consumption on the chest freezers varies from a bit under 1/2kwhr/day to about 3/4kwhr/day.....so I'm running 4-5 chest models for the same power use as your one upright.

You would probably use less power if you filled it with old milk jugs with water and let them freeze in your upright.
