Are they a usefull tool? found one on Craigs list for 100$.
Thinking it would have some advantages over a FEL. Opinions?

my 2cents:

Have a 24" dirt scoop that I used on my last tractor that didn't have a FEL and found it very useful. Got a lot of work done with that little guy. Now I have a tractor with a FEL and it's been on the tractor once. Thought it would penetrate the hard clay I was tring to dig better than the FEL, it didn't. Made a tooth bar for the FEL and haven't touched the dirt scoop since.

I have been eyeing the bucket off of it as the start of a grubber bucket though:D

The jungle has almost reclaimed it.....

I have no FEL and haven't used my scoop much either. The times I did I was moving some dirt for a flower bed, it worked fine.

For $100 just get it and you'll have it.

Well worth the money. I used mine a great deal prior to having an FEL. Not great (but can be done) for digging in hard soils but very useful for moving any loose material.

It is worth $330 new. Handy for working in tandem with your FEL if you need t move a lot of dirt or sand. Load both at the same time for long distance transport. For short distances, a box blade would probably be better and with the scarifiers, likely dig much better. It should dig ok in the Lake Livingston clay if the top link is adjusted correctly. I just depends on what you plan to do as to which implement is better.
I would think that if it doesn't work for your purposes, just relist it on Craigslist and get your money back.

I once dug a small pond and a ditch with one behind my 8n ford and a JD1010. Once you get the angle right it will dig just as good as a loader bucket. I really don't see any advantages over the loader but, for $100 I would get it just to have it. Use it for rear counter weight.
