Then you need to have grass that needs mowing.

Then you have your father in law's FIRST grandchild.

Its a long story, but here goes. I left the house Sat morning to go down to our deere dealer. I told the wifey I was going to get one of those cheap $1700 lawn tractors. My FIL is down there when I get there (trying to head me off at the pass) to try and change my mind and get the better mower. The dealer kept trying to convince me that the LT is the way to go. While he would'nt say exactly what problems the "L series" have, he said the LT is just better made with better deck spindles. I said "I'm just mowing my lawn, I don't need commercial duty" He did say that most get tore up when folks buy 5 acres and think they are buying a JD tractor to clear the brush. L 100 series is not made for that. Well, I convinced them that I was only mowing grass on a level lawn and that I would take my chances with the cheaper mower. So I picked the L130, grass catcher, bumper, and shade top. I told the salesman I'd have to think about it. When I got home and told my wife that $1700 went up to $2900 with taxes and all the goodies, she gave me that look where the eyes roll up and away. Then I told her I hadn't bought it yet.

Sunday night the in laws came over and I told my FIL that I could'nt spend $2900 for a lawn mower. I said I'd call the salesman in the morning and inform him that I'd have to pass on the deal and keep looking for an oldie but goodie. He then said that I was forcing his hand and he didn't want to tell me but he was going to pay half. He said he did this to make sure I was picking out the mower that I would have purchased. Forward to Monday morning. FIL calls me at work and says "since I'm paying half, would you liked to upgrade to the LT160 or LT180". I said sure but I still wanted a bagger. I ended up ordering an LT 180 with the smaller 42" deck which the salesman recommended for using with the bagger. I had to believe him because they didn't have one in stock and had to order it. They had the bigger deck but it supposedly requires the power assist bagger blower unit. I really only want the bagger so I can bag and mulch leaves from our nearby stand of trees and transfer them to the lawn. The rest of the time I'll just run mulching blades.

Whew, my fingers are tired. And I'm only spending about the original $1700. I sure am lucky to have such a great FIL who is making sure that I am well equipped. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I should tell him thank you here too cuz I know he's a lurker.
Thanks GrandDad!

Thanks, I'll post a pic when I get it. Maybe late this week. I think it shipped today.

Ha! What a great post and picture. congrads!

My X485 only "costed" a new clothes washer and dryer (that darn expensive stackable unit from Sears) and a family trip to Sanibel Island FL.

Does anyone else's wife keep that "internal ledger" of costs within their (her) minds?

Hope that little girl looks like her mama!

My 18 month old just got her 'first' JD. It's an Ertel ride on. She keeps trying to steal 'my' 4310...
