My house with basement is 28 years old….not a spec of mold.
Preparation during construction like 2 coats of thoroughseal and a layer of 1/4” bithuthane before installing perc pipe and insulated board to prevent rocks from damaging wall was the reason. I see to many contractors just spray or roll tar on the wall and thing cracking concrete wont rear its ugly head.
When i do encounter mold on other projects i used bleach to kill mold, than we used to either replace the drywall section and remove any damaged insulation before fixing wall. Just killing the mold doesnt fix things behind the wall. For wood, they make good spray products that can kill the mold and leave behind some materials to keep it controlled.
I once went into a crawl space to wire a brand new house and they had so much water penetration that the ground under house was pumping and when i looked up the entire subfloor was white with mold. We hightailed it out of there and cancelled my contract to work on that house. I have no idea who fixed it and what they did, but i wouldnt live in that house if it were free.
