I work at a national lab on a high power particle accelerator which recently incurred several hours of downtime due to a raccoon that managed to get into a pad mounted switchgear transformer enclosure. The outcome for the raccoon was the same as for the slug in the OP.

Had a couple of cabinets infested with ants. That causes issues too since they seem to like to nest inside the electronics.

Funny about ants- they do seem attracted to electrical stuff. My heat pump quit one summer...found the main contactor packed with ants, apparently dead ants are a pretty good insulator when pinched in the contacts...

One of the lab campuses where I used to work had pad mounted transformers. Every year we would average 2-3 multi hour power outages due to ground squirrels managing to get into the critter proof enclosures and shorting the xformer out precipitating an electrical outage.

There wasn't enough squirrel left to eat.

Patrick

At the inlaws one time we heard a loud bang and the power went off...went outside and there at the base of the pole where the transformer was lay a grey tree squirrel. He looked as if someone had stuck a knife in below his tail and fileted him right up to his chin. When the power company replaced the fuse they installed an insulated boot over the input terminal to make it more difficult for the next squirrel to get between the hot and ground.

I was watching a show on discovery, they were talking about the nasty things slugs carry. And why you want to wash anything that they have touched. Nasy brain parasites...was crazy.

Our pressure tank went belly up. I was supposed to be able to buy the parts to fix the tank but I could not find them so we had our plumber replace the tank. After seeing him do it I guess I could have done the job. :D But it would have taken four times as long....:)

So I am glad he did it.

With the cover off the pressure switch but power on...

Yeah, I know, but he is the professional. :D

We saw a slug that had climbed up the pipe and was almost in the switch near the power. I was kinda wondering what would happen if the slug got much farther.....

Now I know. :D

A tree rat got into one of the phone boxes down the road and took out our internet service a few years ago.

Later,
Dan
