Horizontal Exhaust on 231S

Hello all.

Does anyone have any experience with changing a 231S from vertical to horizontal exhaust? Is a new manifold required? Any idea of the cost involved?

Though I have not myself owned a 231, I believe that the conversion is routine.

If memory serves your exhaust manifold has a downward facing flange to which a U-shaped exhaust pipe is connected, which is itself connected to the vertical muffler and stack.

Though the original equipment horizontal exhaust is probably two or three pieces, I expect that less expensive one-piece aftermarket exhausts are available for the 231. I would check the Value-Built catalogue.

Hi Terry,
I realize a lot of time has passed since your original post, but I am considering changing the exhaust from vertical to horizontal on my 231S and was wondering what you had done and if you had any advice.
