Bird,
I seen you were talking about cars etc.on the other thread.
I never have bought a new car before, but I have had 3 different new pickups in my day.I think (speaking for myself) the best value in a used car is a big car, preferably a Crown Vic or a Mercury Grand Marquis. It seems like you can buy these a very reasonable price used, because the demand is not as great as a smaller car.Usually Grandma or Grandpa or the old Lady down the road has traded it in on a new one, generally they have been taken well care of,have lots of room and comfort and luxuries and will run well. They like to work on them at the repair shop because not much changes from year to year.I have a family of six and you can load the whole family up and be comfortable and easily put a 2 week supply of grocerys and utensils in the trunk and have room to spare. Also I like the large size,I feel comfortable knowing my wife and children are driving around in one of these boats for safetys sake.

Hillbilly, I think you're right, but I haven't kept up with car stuff that much since '89. I bought the '93 Escort specifically to tow behind a motorhome and it served our purposes very well until my wife totalled it. I don't know how many revolutions she made, but she cleared a barbed wire fence and came to rest in a briar thicket upside down in a pasture. She was wearing the seat belt, but did get pretty banged up, so I stayed home to take care of her, didn't want to go out shopping and checking out used cars, so I just ordered a new one.

I just purchased a Chrysler LHS for my wife. My first choice probably would have been the Mercury Grand Marquis except for one point.....That's the car my 80+ year old parents are driving around in!!! Just didn't seem right me being just a shade under 40./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Jeff, you'll like the LHS. Had a 94 for a few years and put 78,000 on it before deciding to cut back to one vehicle....the pickup of course!

Sorry Bird,
I was not mean to sound like I was slamming your buying a new car.If a person buys a new one and keeps it for a few years,I think you will stand a lot better chance on getting your money back out of it than trading every couple of years and having a payment forever. And as far as the Ford Escorts go,a neighbor of mine bought a used one for his son at the car auction at Columbus Ohio back in the 1980's (bought it real cheap) and his son finally sold it a couple years back and a neighbor of mine has it now and is still driving it at 200,000 miles plus.

Hey under 40 is not too young to have a big car,I am 43 and on my second one.
I wish my scanner was working,I lucked onto a gem this spring,my 1st ever "toy car" a 1986 Mercedes 190E,I give $4500 for it with 113000 miles on it paper work was in the glove box and it was bought new in Pittsburgh for $28000 ,talk about something sweet to drive. Not a car for a family of 6 but the wife and I can go to the yard sales etc while the kids are in school.

No problem, Hillbilly. I didn't take it that way at all. I was just agreeing with you in general, but it didn't fit my specific circumstances at the time. A neighbor recently bought a very clean '93 Lincoln Towncar at a very reasonable price, too, and I think they made a good choice.

No, I'm not knocking big....my pickup is 22 feet long!! Heck, if my wife would let me I'd have a Peterbilt in the garage!!! There just seems to be something wrong with driving the same car your parents think is cool.
