Thanks to you all for your guidance. I have nothing but grass/weeds to cut so it sounds like the flail mower is my best option. I would like to buy from a dealer that is at least kind of local. I've never heard of Caroni where do I find these ? In general will a 6 ft Bush Hog Flail mower be more expensive than 6ft Rotary Cutter ?

The Caroni is an Italian import and the importer and main seller is AgriSupply of North Carolina. They are pleasant to do business with and shipping isn't that bad. I don't know anyone else who carries Caroni - apparently some TSC stores did briefly a few years ago, but it's not a regular TSC item (probably far too high quality for TSC).

It's hard to give you a straight price comparison, but basically I think you will find that a flail is roughly the same to slightly more expensive when compared to a rotary cutter of the same quality and intended use. There are no really low-end flails that I know of. The Caroni is well made and compares to nicer light duty rotary cutters like a Bush Hog, BEFCO, maybe a Woods or Landpride (probably a hair below those two in quality and thorough engineering). The only other light duty flail I know of is a BEFCO that runs in the $2600-3000 range depending on size. Otherwise most flail mowers currently sold in the US are intermediate to heavy duty models with corresponding high prices, but remember to compare that to medium to heavy duty rotary cutters that also cost in the $3000 and up range.

Also in the apples to apples department, remember to compare a RC when equipped with safety chain shielding and a slip clutch to the flail. The chains are a very VERY good idea for safety with an RC, and a flail is inherently much safer due to the design.
