I've got about 3 miles of gravel driveway to maintain. I've got a bit of washboarding and a few rougher areas to work over. I've got a DK35 with a BB. I'm wondering what the concensus is on using the BB for this vs using something a bit more specialized such as a landplane, a rake or other attachment.
I'm looking for suggestions on what I should use and what would be size compatible for my machine?

Wow, 3 miles? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif With a drive that long you may want to look into a DuraGrader or something similar. Check out this post.
I thought mine was long at 1500 ft. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I don't think a backblade has enough weight to do a job on washboard roads. I'd go with a boxblade and finish with a york rake.

The heavy duty York rake with scarifiers and would be my first choice. The heavy duty rakes are heavy enough to be very effective and the scarifiers are great when washboard or pot holes need to be dug out.

A friend of mine has one that I have used and it sure did wonders on the drive and the scarifiers didi a good job of removing roots from an area of woods that was be turned into field.

This rake also had a metal panel that dropped down in from of the tines to move material like a rear blade would. The town highway department where I live uses a York rake on all their dirt roads to keep them in shape.

I've just had my CK30HST since this June and am new at all this. I have a 1/3mi driveway, steep, dirt/big rocks 6"/some old gravel.

I got a KK "professional" bb with tilt and I have been using it/learning the past few months, making ditches, making a crown, routing water flow as I see it change after rains.

I can't see how I could do that with a box blade or a rake. Maybe when I get it all finished with a bit of new gravel, after a while a rake would be good.

I grade our three miles of limerock road twice a month with a Bush Hog 84" box blade that weighs about 850 pounds, works excellent! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sometimes I use a 72" box blade and it works good too, although it doesn't weigh or hold as much.

Add gauge wheels and weight to the back blade.

Do a search for Dura Grader. It looks like the ticket for maintaining a long gravel rd. I believe that if I had a longer driveway I'd buy one but I can't justify it with the drive I have. I'll just have to keep working with the box blade until I can achieve good results. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

How about attaching a 55 gallon drum filled with water to the BB. If I used rachet type straps I think it would stay put...
