GrandL battery replacement, L3940, L3540, L4240, L5040, L5240, L5740

Have 5+ years on my battery, want to plan for replacement. Printed on oem battery NX110-5MF, 80D26R, 582CCA. What 'group' number have you guys used as replacement on these models with no modifications? Thanks. Philip.

Measure your battery tray... then get the Heaviest (more lead) battery that will fit into the space.

5 years? I have one that's 11 that's fine and another that just died at 12 years old. I think you might get a few more years out of your battery.

I agree, when it dies, take the battery in and get the biggest, heaviest duty diesel battery they have that will fit into the space.

As long as you either use the tractor weekly, or put it on a charger occasionally, they should last a long time beyond 5 years.

Yeah, according to the OEM number, it is a group 26R, but that is a very uncommon (translate - expensive, hard-to-find) battery, so I did like others and just measured for the largest that would fit. Be careful when you measure - my L4330 has small protruding knubs on the lower "tray" where the hold-down rods insert. These knubs are the limiting width factor but they are easy to overlook when measuring. Otherwise, almost any battery would fit. I think that the OEM cables are even long enough that it doesn't matter which terminal arrangement you get, but check yours to be sure.

A guy at the interstate battery store told me that he would buy the battery with less CCA if they are both the same physical size. To get extra cranking power the plates are longer. That means the plates are closer to the bottom of the battery and can short out sooner as the battery plates degrade. Personally I would look into getting a AGM battery as a replacement.

26R is a very common size. My Massey and Kioti use it.

I always put on a light coat, smeared all over everything. I don't think that what kind is terribly important, vaseline, axle grease, whatever's in the grease gun. The main idea is just to provide a barrier between moisture/air and the posts and terminals.

I have been using No-ox-Id now for about 35 years on battery terminals. I got started using it commercially at work on stationary batteries.
I will guarantee you will never have a corrosion problem if you use it.

No idea if we're still keeping score. However my L48TLB with factory battery after 16 years seems to want a new one. Still turns over but needs a top off with a charger in this cold weather. I expect that GS Nippon Denchi battery is likely worth whatever premium the OEM paid. FWIW it is an 80D26R-MF which translates to a 24 form factor here.
