My GR2120 is almost 3 years old with 95 hours on it. My first problem (about 40 hours or so) was a parking brake that failed. That was covered under warranty but still was very inconvenient for me. This most recent issue was much more disheartening. One day the tractor was running fine, the next it shook, spewed black smoke and practically vibrated me off the seat and, within a minute or two, completely stopped running. My Kubota dealer, after evaluating it, said it was catastrophic engine failure, a result of something getting into the combustion chamber and destroying the piston. They're still working on it, so I don't have all the details, and I'm hoping that some warranty work will be done, but very, very disheartening in a machine I thought would be reliable for a very long time.

That sux. I hope it'll get fixed under Warr. You better have done the 50hr fluid/filter changes or they'll be pointing it out to you!

yea, Pete, I actually had the dealer do the 50 hr fluid/filters, so I should be covered there. Thx.

No update as of yet. My dealer has been very slow with this repair. They've had the tractor for 3 weeks. I've discouraged with the brand the whole way around so far. I'll touch base early this week. Thanks for the inquiry.

Upside is that if your dealer is any good, Kubota usually stands behind the oddball stuff like this, if it's not user created..Hope for the best In your issue.

Hopefully you didn't by mistake top the tank of with gasoline. The sudden belching of black smoke and extreme vibrations sounds like a situation I witnessed one time at a dealership after the new kid added some fuel to the tank on a unit.

Just wanted to update everyone on the GR2120. Wow, what an adventure this tractor has been. First, the parking brake gets chewed up, next is catastophic engine failure that they attributed to a piece of metal cracking off in the piston chamber. End result of that has been a full replacement of the engine. This was under warranty, but it took over 3 mos to get my tractor back and a million phone calls on my part to both the dealer and corporate support in Texas. My tractor has about 110 hours on it now and I can feel the parking brake beginning to go again. I really think that Kubota is getting the steel for their machines from some 3-d printer or something! Absolutely junky. I know folks who have had this tractor for 10 years with no issues, but not the new ones. Steer very clear.
