I'll say this. That hitch didn't break from a light swing of a #8 hammer.

I have one of them pins that is bent from pulling under 8000#'s .
And I even have a receiver hitch that I broke with a little light swing of a short handled 8# hammer . The shock load of a 14,000# load would easily do the same .

But it's where the load is placed on the truck that makes it dangerous with 14,000# plus loads .
It's saver to have the load over the axle than 4-5 feet behind it .

Come on... are you serious? I'm sorry, but future posts by you have lost quite a bit of credibility to me. There's no way you did that unless it was about to break for other reasons. Besides it would have bent quite a bit before breaking like that, unless you are much stronger than me, I would had a hard time bending that if trying and would end up heating it first.

And as far as breaking while towing, I have never heard of anyone breaking a drawbar, but then again at those weights most would be using a pintle or at least a forged drawbar. I personally wouldn't tow that much with a bumper pull regularly, but more because of the un-loading of the front axle than because of fear of breaking something. I would hope these people are using a wdh, but even then it's a pain.

3/4" thick and 2-1/2" wide steal (usually what they are made from) is tough stuff. It would bend before breaking. Otherwise it would have broke when bent the first time.

Perhaps it is a homemade hitch?? someone used some type of hardenable steel and they heated it to bend it and then quenched it cause they didnt feel like waiting for it to cool?? That would have made it very hard and brittle???

I am no metallurgist, but mild steel certainly dont break like that. You could whale on mild steel all day long and maybe bend it a little, but certainly not break it.

Is that the slip in piece or are you using a 2" slipped in a 2 1/2 truck hitches .

2.5" solid bars with 1 1/4" shank 2 5/16" ball welded and rated at 25,000#. Trust me, the ball, mount, or pin are not the weak link.

I have used the slave to adapt down to 2" for my light stuff like the Jet Ski.

Don't fold the ramps up like I said and u can still haul stuff on the dove even though its angled . Really easy to do they make straps and chain to keep stuff from moving . Lol

I don't have ramps on my dovetail deckover. I haul stuff on the dovetail frequently. My trailer is 28+4. I use it all.

Nope I was a pretty light swing with the hammer pictured I was stunned it broke and it wasn't fractured or damaged i looked for that at the break . It was stuck in a hitch from rust so I thought I would tap it out and that's what happened . Heck I was going to use it glad it broke tapping it out and not hooked to a trailer .

Looking at your other picture of the break, something was up with your hitch. Its not normal for a piece of metal to break like that.

And pissing match not really . Just means that there's dangerous people out there pulling dangerous heavy loads

If its within the manufactures ratings and loaded properly why would it be any more dangerous?

And ya don't know but it did break with a little swing of a short handle 8# hammer . Y'all can believe me or not but it happened . Why I have no clue . Stunned I was very stunned it happen .
But it did . Am I a believer that they can easily break heck ya now .
