Good news, got a skunk in my coop

Sounds crazy, but I'm happy to have a skunk back living under the freezer in my chicken coop. I had one about 2 years ago but my neighbor shot the fella. The reason I'm happy is because he only robs a few eggs and I have more than enough but the benefit is that my rats and mice are GONE! It's fantastic!

I figure he will stay around for a while and then I'll chase him off but man am I happy to be rid of the rats!

I like skunks for yellowjackets. Just need to make sure they can find/get to the nest.

He has already won vs my wife. She won't go in the coop any more! LOL

Did she pick a fight with him or just decide that you were the best candidate for such a fight should he be in the mood? My wife would certainly volunteer me as well.

She didn't even know he was there until I told her! She is just scared of what may happen. It doesn't even smell like a skunk in the coop. Boy can those things dig. I had a rat issue and the ground is gravel and sand naturally. Impossible to dig by hand. The skunk has dug up the burrows like nobody's business. It's great!

I didnt know that about skunks.
I smelled one yesterday morning when I went out and had a thought of getting a gun. Now I will not do that.

I think the question here is why in the world do you have your freezer inside your chicken coop?? lol.
