Good morning, 2nd cup of coffee is gone. Time for another. 67 now, may get to 75 or so later. Rained steady all night. Has stopped now. Though radar looks like we may get more soon.

Busy day yesterday. Finally got beans in the garden in the morning. Needed a new general purpose cart for general use around here. TSC had the Rubbermaid farm carts on sale and in stock. They have one less. Replaced a worn bushing in the steering sector shaft of the lawn tractor. Would have been easier with a second set of hands, but somehow did it with one set. Mowed the lawn with the wife痴 help. Repaired a loose threaded insert in the seat pan of the race bike I am restoring, will do some fiberglass repair today. Watched the race from Laconia. Yea, busy day.

Happy Fathers Day! Will stop to see my dad today.

Gonna have to see my doctor, this finger is not getting better.

67 outside this AM. By the pool with a cup of coffee. Empty. Need to go inside and wake everyone up. They are slouching. Got the pool cleaner running and watching the swallows get their water. Not much on the agenda today. Maybe a car show and some b bq.

It was 38° this morning and sunny. We got a few good thunderstorm over the last few days. Today is going to be mostly sunny and in the mid 70's with some wind.

Been working on some of the stuff around here. Got the hose replaced on the backhoe and got the new bumper on the trailer yesterday. Sill need to do some other work on the trailer. Not sure what I'll get done today.

I take it the water tank halves bolt together, and someone has to hold the bolt while someone else tightens the nut, Eric? Sounds like I'd better try to find a manufacturer that uses carriage bolts.:laughing:

Not good news about that pear tree, Bird. It means a fair amount of work for somebody, any way you look at it.

It was nice and cool out yesterday morning, so I started the day by cleaning out the gutters. I cleaned 'em out last year, but somehow this year they'd collected a lot more debris. Fortunately it was dry and a broad putty knife let me scrape up the dirt and pine needles easily, but I got about two five gallon buckets of the stuff out of there. Also found several broken brackets that support the gutters, and now I wonder if they were even installed properly.

Switched over to the ignition replacement on the bike, but got stopped dead in my tracks when I found the instruction printed in German with no translation. Took forever to find an English version on the company's web site, then got the wrong one, but a German speaking friend that has one got me straightened out. Then he confirmed that my current pair of coils probably won't work with it, so I wrote a note to the company, apologizing that it was in English, asking for a recommendation. That pretty much wiped out the day.

Forgot to mention that on Friday, just about dinner time, a post popped up on Facebook about a wildfire only a few miles away. I saw what looked like a lot of smoke off that way, and the alert called for a "full wildland response". I saw two firetrucks headed south across the canyon, sirens blaring and lights flashing, then a couple of planes circling. Oh no, I thought, here we go again. Then radio traffic from the spotter plain indicated they were having trouble finding the smoke, and a few minutes later it was determined that someone was burning debris in their yard. Once a crew got there, they were told to put it out and a citation was written. Lots of people responded to that post in panic, PTSD type responses after last year's fire. This year's burn ban will go into effect tomorrow, but the rules currently in effect say all fires have to be out by 11AM. Apparently not everyone got the word, and it doesn't sound like this one would have paid any attention anyway. It was a good reminder that I need to convert the now unused sprinkler system to spray water on the house, so I'll start in on that this morning. I'm picturing two dozen 1 gallon per minute sprayers, one mounted every ten feet along the gutter line, plumbed into four different sprinkler valves. Should run about an hour and a half before the tank goes dry, more depending on how well the well keeps up. That's a little less than the battery storage I'll have, but I guess it's a lot better than what I've got now...

Oh, and the new shovel showed up yesterday. Heck of a big box.:laughing: Nice wide step on it, so I decided to give it a try in my running shoes. It didn't hurt, but it didn't dig very well, either. Some of the reviews complained that the edge of the shovel wasn't sharpened, and I'd never even thought a shovel should be sharpened. But took it over to the belt sander anyway and put a 45° bevel on it, and I think it really helped. I'd missed a couple of old sage stumps in the back yard, and the shovel went in pretty easy next to the first one and the handle barely bent as I pried the thing right out of the ground. Compared to my old shovel, this one weighs a pound or so more, has a wider blade, and a bit longer handle. Nice foam padding on the end of the handle, too, decent looking welds between the blade and the feral, and no sharp edges on the rivets as some had found. Nice thick powercoating on the metal parts, and made 100% in the USA too. So far, so good.

I've said before that my real father wasn't much of a dad, an alcoholic, leaving us with no child support when I was in 4th grade. I was glad he left.

But I was fortunate to have 3 different men keep a watchful eye on me in my formative years. 2 of which have passed away.


Sorry about your tree Bird. Get you a couple of peach trees to replace it.

We just can't catch a break from the rain here in Pa. We get one nice day then 4 or 5 days of rain. I can't use the lawn tractor for mowing most areas of my yard and even the push mower is questionable. Irritating but not near as bad as what those in the midwest are going thru.

69°F and 1.25 inches rain so a bit soggy out there, but hopefully drying out.

Jim and I got Sophie’s Scag Z turn back in service yesterday. New battery, change out the starter (bad solenoid), carburetor maintenance, a new fuse.
