I tried to start a wet leaf pile on fire with gas when I was in my teens. I threw a cup of gas on the wet leaves and walked away to get a match. Was gone about a minute. Came back, lit the match, tossed it at the pile, and WOOF!The more volatileone, obviously! Although to be fair, diesel generally works much better for getting a damp bonfire pile going.
The pile looked like a cartoon X-Ray where I could see the veins in every leaf as they exploded in all directions. Apparently, the dampness kept the fumes in the pile. It was amazing and terrifying all at once. I lost some eyebrows.
