I have read input from other hunting forums regarding game cams, but just wanted to see if any TBNer's had any experience, recommendations, and/or advice on these devices based on personal experience.

I would like to use the device to take some pictures of a wildlife I have on my property, but would also like to use it to maybe catch some trespassers too.

I would like to get a good digital cam for $100-$200. Am I dreaming? I'm sure there are tradeoffs with lesser priced models, but it is just hard to justify $500 or more for this type of 'toy'. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think the trespassers would at best damage or at worst steal the camera.

I can't speak to they other issues, except that you shouldn't have to justify toy expenses. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Have a good one,
Neil.

They make one with infrered lighting, no flash.. This type is on the high side, but the only way you could keep a tresspasser from knowing about it. I havent been able to justify one yet for myself, but I want one. I think Ernie has one, you may want to ask him what he thinks.

Ernie thinks ??

Infrared flash is the only way to go, or you will loose it to a thief, garranteed ! Ebay is where you will find them cheaper than anywhere else.
The one I have know is a movie camera with the infrared light. Nothing moves on our property without us knowing about it., then theres the machinegun towers but thats another story !

I have read many stories relating to theft of these cameras, so I really want to conceal/secure. What is the range on the IR cameras - are they all about the same? How do you have your camera secured? Cable? Camo? Metal Box?

Do you have problems in summer with IR camera?

Does your IR camera have a red light that stays on continuously?

I remembered you telling me about the one you got /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif ..I need one to catch a scumbag on my hunting property, just havent gotten one yet /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif....

The infrareds cost more, they are totally invisible, no red lights ect.. Never put one in the direct sunlight, always cover it or mount on the north side of a tree. Theft is always a problem, so infra is the way to go. That means (infrared flash)
Also the sportsman guide sells them pretty cheap, you get what you pay for.
Im still waiting to catch a picture of bigfoot, then you will see me in the camera (tv) heh heh. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There is a web site for building your own Game cam. Hagshouse.com I have built a few myself and they work really well!! I use a couple of different Sony digital cams in mine. The quality of these homebrew cams really exceeds those bought at the stores in my opinion. Hope this helps you.

Thanks

Bill
