I bought a new 6 foot round by 2 feet deep stock stank.
I plan on using this tank to soak in after working in the yard.
If I spray RoundUp around it to keep the grass down,
will the RoundUp chemicals hurt the tank in any way?
If I add chlorine and other swimming pool chemicals
will this hurt the tank in any way.
Basically I plan on treating it as a small swimming pool.
Except it's only deep enough to soak in like a hot tub.
I even have a small swimming pool filter to use with it.
But for what the tank cost, I want to take care of it.

Thanks.

Are you planning on starring in a Cialis commercial? :D

All kidding aside, you might search the net to see if any of the chemicals you mentioned react with galvanized metal. An herbicide called Pro-Deuce reacts with galvanized steel according to the manufacturer.

This 9 ft.tank was bought 30 years ago for the kids when the wife tired of returning the puff ups to the mart store.

At that time pool chemicals were used but in the last few years only chlorine bleach. Since it has been good for 30 years we can probably assume the chemicals have no detrimental effects. This one has never had round-up or grass killer sprayed around it because I like the green grass,as meager as it is, so I can't advise on that.

The active ingredient in Roundup is a type of salt, so it can cause some rusting. Not sure how bad it would be on galvanized metal. Probably not bad enough to worry about.

That is what I was worried about with the Round Up.
The stuff is basically a salt and horticultural vinegar.
Either the salt or the acetic acid might be bad for it.
Guess I'll skip the Round Up and trim around it by hand.

It sure is nice to soak in after working in the heat.

Thanks.

Keep the round-up away, you don't want to be swimming in those chemicals.

Spray full strength bleach around the "pool", bet that will kill the grass. It is certainly cheap enough to try.

I once had fire ants all in my well head box, pondered what to kill them with that wouldn't possibly poison my water...bleach worked great.

I'd be willing to bet glyphosate is safer than bleach. But use what you want. Personally, I'se use a weed eater.

It says on the instructions that Roundup should not be used in galvanized tanks.

As long as I know chlorine or bleach is safe for the inside, I can trim by hand around the outside. I use a straight-hoe around the HVAC unit. Or I have a hand held electric grass trimmer if it gets that bad. I didn't want to use a weed eater cause I am afraid it would wear the galvanized coating off right around the base.

Soon as I get the back deck reinforced to hold that much weight, the tank is going on the deck. Then I can just walk out the sliding glass door, and crawl in for a nice long soak.
