Hi, I have a chance to buy bulk oil at a good price if I buy right now. I am still a couple of weeks away for the arrival of my new Ft404 - what oil is recommended for the engine transmission, front axle, hydraulics, etc and how much quantity of each.
I haven't seen any manual or anything yet - so I am not sure what it will need. Can anyone help?

We are looking at cooler climates - location Ottawa Canada.

Thanks, Kobi

For the engine, I use Shell Rotella T 15W40. If Canada uses the API Rating system like we do, any 15W40 will do - as long as it's rated API-CF or better

For the front diff/tranny/rear diff I use Shell Spirax HD 80W90. If Shell is hard to come by, select an 80W90 that is both anti-foaming AND safe for yellow metals. If that one confuses you, it's mentioned enough times in this forum where the search engine will bring back clarification.

It can get cold here in the winter, so I use AW32 (ISO32) hydraulic fluid year round. Brand is not important to me, as long as it's clearly marked as non-foaming

Most folks will use engine oil in the injection pump, but I prefer full detergent ISO100 compressor oil.

And of course, a minimum 50/50 mixture of a decent green antifreeze/water for the cooling system. If you're a winter user, maybe 60/40, but never more than 70/30

Thank You Greg!
Yes we do use the same API rating up here as well. I can get a good price on buying the oil bulk right now. The new FT404 will be here by the 18th. It is a crated version and I will be busy putting it together and changing all the fluids. I use ISO 100 in my shop compressor and I will do the same and use that for the pump.

Hello, I am new to this sight but I have found it very useful indeed. I have a Foton FT404 but have yet to figure out where to check the rear differential. Included is a photo of where the lifter oil dip stick is at. What I don't know is what the other fill port is for or what it belongs to. Any help would be nice. Also I have a 4 cylinder diesel (C490BT).

Thanks.

Gots a question for ya?

those engines sleaved? dry or wet sleaved, if yes.

Anyone have any thoughts on cavitation / electrolysis?

On my old fords ( CNH as well ) we use a cavitation/electrolysis conditioner in our coolant.

Soundguy,

I use an anticavitation additive with all my diesel engines - a lot of owners don'trealize the problems. I recently rebuilt my JD450 engine because of coolant leaks into the crankcase. It turned out that I had two liners badly pitted and holed. I bought the machine used "as is" and ended up with someone elses problems.

I use Fleetguard additive - cheap and easy to use. Readily available at any International truck dealer. I haven't used it in the gas engines, but the diesel engines benifit greatly.

I use the FW-15 addative available at CNH.. you can mix by volume and test with strips.

My 7610s has had it since new.. but I wonder about my 75' 5000 I'm pretty sure it's got a few thousand hous on it.. and I doubt the tree farmer I got it from ran anything other than car antifreezr in it.

I treat it good now.. but wonder 'when' a line is gonna spring a leak.. hopefully I dodged a bullet.

Can't speak for this particular Foton engine, but most of the engines in the Chinese tractors I've worked on were wet sleeved. Rather than make that a blanket statement though, the owner really needs to take the responsibility himself to verify wet/dry in the owner's manual.

Side note; whereas my Jinma engine manual cites the Y85 as wet-sleeved, it does not address anti-cavitation additives at all. Interestingly, it's emphatic about not using "hard" water. If "soft" water is not available, it recommends adding 5g of caustic soda per liter of water. Other than that, the manual just says to use anti-freeze if working in freezing weather. I guess cuz this is an 80C engine, they're not overly concerned about boiling.

The caustic soda is a clue... The anti cav addatives are deffinately PH mods...
