Hi,
I have no hydraulic return connection on my Ford 4000 (1969, 3 cyl. disel). Where do i place the quick connection for the return oil?

Regards
Jesper

Do you have a FEL on the tractor?

If so, just tee into the tank line.

Do you have a fill cap for the tank?

If so, return the fluid into the filler opening.

Where is the fluid coming from for the splitter?

No FEL - suppose it stands for Front End Loader - my English is not that good, especially when it comes to tractor terms and acronyms...)
The oil comes from the original outlet on top of the hydraulic selector.
As i understand, I can just mount a quick connection on the filler opening - but I was wondering if there are a special opening for this purpose...? That would be more convenient and nice.

Maybe Soundguy will see this and reply. He has a vast knowledge of Fords and other tractors.

Are you tspping into the hyd system with no extra level (spool, valve) and so the oil is always cycling throgh this hose, there is no control of it on the tractor, just a lever on the splitter? This means while using the splitter no other hyd stuff will work, your 3pt arms need to be chained into position. This is a sort of home=made, awkawrd type of system.

Or does your tractor have a hyd lever on it, it is single-acting, with only one hyd hose from the lever, it can push a hyd cylinder but gravity returns the oil through the same hose normally?

Just to add some more data, I am going to assume that you have obtained a place for the pump fluid, which would normally go to the 3pt system.

So if you are interrupting the normal flow and are now going from pump to log splitter vale and you need a place for the return fluid. The low pressure from the tank port of the log splitter valve should go to the thak by whatever means, and the 3pt will not work.

If you want the 3pt to work with the log splitter connected correctly, you will need a log splitter valve with PB to feed the 3pt.

If you remove the log splitter, then you will need a short jumper hose to connect the hose from the pump and the hose going to the 3pt.

A remote valve with PB would solve your problems. You would add this valve in series with the pump, and the PB would feed the 3pt, and the tank port from the remote would go to tank.

A set of QD on the remote work ports , and just plug in the log splitter.

Well, the splitter is mounted on the 3pt but it has 2 legs, so it is standing on the ground when in use - therefore I don't need to operate the 3pt at the same time as the splitter.
The splitter has got a 2 way cylinder so it must have continous pressure from the tractors hyd. The splitter is operated with a valve/lever on the splitter to put pressure on each side of the piston. So all in all i just need to get rid of the oil returning from the splitter - and this brings me back to the question of where to put the return quick connection...

Thank's for all your respons! it's fantastic with so much feedback!

The place where you add hyd fluid is always a good option.
