i believe this is the internal schematic for your system,
have you a multimeter?
care to post a link of the solid state regulator you are using?

fwiw i would be going integrated alternator and binning the external regulator as well.

Well I figured it out. The power line that was coming from the alternator and the ignitions switch to the regulator 6pin connector was broken. So I just had to replace the wire and put a new terminal into the connector. I am guessing that the mechanical regulator just reacted different than the solid state one in that situation.
