Hello!

I was using the tractor to move some gravel and it overheated. It smoked and barely moved. We replaced the battery because that was no good. Tightend the fan belt, replaced the coolant. Now the engine is running great but the tractor does not move. Well, it moves a tiny bit extremely slowly as long as there is not a pebble, then it stops again.

I think it is the clutch but after looking at the pictures of how to repair it I am hoping it is something easier to deal with.

How do I know if it is the clutch? I read somewhere something about the PTO and the clutch and how you can diagnose a bad clutch.

Could the clutch possibly need an adjustment and would that be easier? Thank you in advance!!!!!!!

Take 2 2x4s 8" or so long, lay them on top of the front axil housing and pound them in towards the engine. This will keep the engine from tilting to one side as you roll the front end away from the rear. Get a friend to help split it. Set the E brake so the rear will stay put. Check the 4WD shaft and couplings for wear. replace as necessary now, so you don't have to split it again. I don't know why Japanese clutches never seem to give warning, by starting to slip, they work or they don't. Lots of patience, jack stands, and common sense will be your friends. Not a hard job but it will save you a bunch if you do it yourself. BE SAFE!!!! Take your time. Good luck.
